what if collegeboard really grades all the tests wrong, and they just make money getting you to assume something went wrong and pay the 25$ for hand scoring... has there ever been any investigation "fully" into this company and it's doings, i mean overall, we really don't have any clue as to how the tests are scored really, it's all kinda just assumption, they don't post it on their site and you'd have to go through some sat gu-ru to really know how they are graded. so i'm just wondering... what if. ya know? they say not for profit, but i mean... do you really think that is so?

collegeboard could be screwing with all of our futures and we don't even realize it.

Counterargument: Collegeboard has already been sued for the mass misscore they did a while back. This should be more than sufficient proof to them that if they screw with a great deal of students, they will get bitten in the ass for it. Due to the existence of forums such as this, students can share thoughts, and if they all realize that their tests had been misscored, Collegeboard will get sued. End of story.

[EDIT]
And yes, as BD89 has just said, no, our futures do not depend on the SAT... This is something that pretty much every SAT prep I've ever seen says at some point, and if you're even somewhat serious about the SAT, I'd imagine you've seen it somewhere too =P

the SAT does decide our future, really...if you don't do well, you have a less likely chance of getting into a top college, which can completely chage your life

what do you do after the SAT is still up to you though... nm i'm not gonna write a lot about this i'll just leave it at a quote (more of a paraphrase) my teacher said once: "i've had students who were national merit scholars and now they roam the streets... and i've had kids who dropped out of high school and became multi millionaires" (he said one kid was worth like 270 million)

i mean i know ur worth more than your sat score, but like sometimes that's the deciding factor. what if going to this one college meant the world to you and you didn't get in because of one test. i find it discouraging b/c ppl on here are like "i'm a super genius" and i got a 2300, is that good enough? and my friends and i were talking about this site and were like... nobody at our school is like that save about 1 person, and so it is just so discoraging when you get in the 1700's and there is nothing you can do about it because it is already application time and they don't take scores after january. We have busy lives, I can't "prep" myself. I don't have time, and it's not an excuse, it's a fact. You are a great student, but are not good on tests like this, and you don't try telling that to the college, because it will seem like an excuse. I know they don't determine your future, but they have a say sometimes in where you go to school and that school will be what will shape you and mold you into who you are going to be when you are older. So it is sad, because seriously, the sat does have an effect on your future. i do like the quote above, it kinda slaps the people who get 2200's in the face. It is a one day test, it does not determine who you are, who you will be, or the type of person you are. The people who are involved and don't stay at home studying are the people who are going to do something with this world. And I mean really involved. I guess me and my friends all have these big dreams and are just scared that out sats are low, we won't get into the best college in which we can accomplish these goals, and thus our dreams won't come true.

None-profit my @$$. I'm willing to bet that the CEOs of the College Board are raking it in...

BUT, I don't think the SATs decide our futures. WE decide our futures. If we don't get into the school we want to, so what? It STINKS, but wherever we end up, it's up to us to make the best of it. It's not only about sitting and waiting for opportunities to find you. It's about seeking them out. You can find good opportunities anywhere if you just look for them. And you really can enjoy yourself if you try. In other words, your future can still rock if you're not at top 20 school.

I need to take my own advice a little though lol.

Shut up. Aren't you guys just tired of those BS generalized stories about a teacher "knowing" some National Merit Scholar who "roams the streets?" Yes, I know teachers tell you this, but dude, use common sense. Those events rarely happen and I can bet you those teachers heard that story from another teacher who heard that story from another teacher.....

Don't get sucked into the lies. While SATs are not "life threatening," people who get good grades do not become homeless people.

non-profit is a funny word; i don't know the specifics of it, but just because the College Board is non-profit does not mean that the people who work for it do not make any money....

another example would be non-profit community service organizations; the people that work for them still make money....

Sadly, it's hard for me to picture the College Board and a community service organization in the same sentence. It makes sense that the people who work for the College Board will make money, but I think people on here were commenting on how the College Board charges for literally every extra servicei.e.- $50 for handscoring, $8 to get AP scores early by phone, etc. But, of course, I still don't think the SAT is THE determining fact in our future. It's one nasty, annoying test, but that's all it is.

college board is owned by the Educational Testing Services which i dont think is nonprofit...the SAT is not your future all it does is measure a certain type of intelligence and so what if you score isnt great. going to a great school means youll get a good entry job out of college and thats it. after that its about what you do in the work world that will dictate if you succeed or not.
