So I was looking for ways to watch my Philadelphia Eagles in the dorm rooms with the direct tv service and the only thing I found was NFL sunday ticket. That looks like it costs $60 a month which I find to be quite unreasonable. Is there any other way to watch football games? Are there any good sports bars for people under 21 that show multiple games at once?

There is Benchwarmer’s on the commons, but I’m not sure if they have wifi or allow people under 21(such as myself). I sure as heck don’t want to watch the Bills when there’s a Steelers game on.If worst comes to worst I’ll just stream the games live online.

you should be able to stream it online (if your lucky and find a stream)

I would be streaming online…I am not that savvy with the computers but I stream live sports on a regular basis. (and my bandwidth limit doesn’t suffer noticeably either.)

also, Benchwarmers is a regular restaurant in addition to a sports bar…like I went there once with my family, and the youngest person in our group was 16 yrs old at most. I guess you couldn’t sit at the bar though.

Alright, are there any legitimate ways to stream games online or do you just have to try you luck? Also, idk if anyone knows, but does benchwarmer’s have a lot of different games going or just the local ones?

Maybe a slingbox would help? I’m thinking about trying one this year, I hate not being able to watch Bears games.

wouldnt slingbox consume bandwidth?

The housing packet incoming freshman got says:
Use of Slingbox or similar devices is strongly discouraged.
That’s the only reason I’m not bringing one.

I’m gna miss the Raiders. NFL Sunday ticket is too expensive

Yeah slingbox sounds pretty sweet, but if it’s strongly discouraged I’ll probably pass on it. I don’t really understand how it works though. If my family is watching tv would I need be able to watch at the same time?

Yeah, so it’s “discouraged,” big freakin deal. I’m a Junior at Cornell now, and I’ve used my slingbox since freshman year, without any trouble. It’s discouraged, because it uses a pretty good amount of internet (bandwith) when you stream live TV on there. That being said, as long as you check your bandwith usage, you will be able to see whether or not you’re coming close to exceeding your internet cap. I have never gone over my internet cap, and I used my slingbox to watch entire Red Sox games at least 3-4 times a week in September, plus every Patriots game, and many Celtics/Bruins games, plus SportsCenter, etc… Additionally, a smart thing to do would be to get the slingbox and save the software to a USB drive. This way, you can load your slingbox literally on any computer with internet, and as long as you’re not using your own laptop, the internet usage isn’t traced to you. For example, you plug your USB drive into a library computer and watch your TV via slingbox in the library- that’s not traced to you, that’s “library internet,” and you will never be charged for that. I’ve done that quite a few times haha.
In terms of the “discouraged” thing- first off, it’s not banned, so if you have one there’s nothing wrong with it. And they do not have a way of targetting you and saying “OH you have a slingbox.” It’s simply a computer program- they can’t find it even if they wanted to.

The way it works is that it forwards you the feed from whichever cable/satellite box you hook it up to. If you connect it to one in your family room, you are in control, UNTIL someone in your family turns on the TV in the family room. When they turn on the TV, you still get the Audio feed, but you lose the video. It’s actually kind of funny, sometimes if I’m watching the sligbox, my mom won’t realize it and she’ll change to a soap opera at home. But then, I’ll change the channel from my computer to a sports game and it’ll freak her out since she didn’t do it lol.

Best of luck and if you have any more questions feel free to ask

Eagles fans are pretty intense (I’ve seen this firsthand). I’m sure you’ll find a way. :p

Alright that sounds pretty good so maybe I’ll try it. Another question, would you have access to your family’s dvr with a slingbox? Also, it it a one time purchase, or subscription based?

I actually have it hooked up to the cable box in my room at home, which does not have DVR. However, on the slingbox player on the computer, I know there’s record/pause/rewind/play buttons, so I would assume that it’s DVR capable. Slingbox essentially gives you your cable box’s remote on your computer. So it’s my understanding that whatever your box can do, you can do from your computer.
And it’s a beautiful thing- one time purchase, no subscriptions, no nonsense.

Sounds like you’re getting a lot out of your on-campus experience.
