Out-of-State Chances?

haha yea its another chances thread, it'd be great if people could respond, i would love to go to unc.

Out of State (extremely competitive public school in Jersey)
SAT I: 1330 (700m, 630v...yea not so good)
SAT II: 710 2c, 710 writing, 760 chem, 690 chinese
AP: 5 on chem
Weighted gpa: 3.816/4.0 with a huge increase (3.332 to 4.001 to 4.096) from freshmen to soph and junior years (only b/c i was a slacker in 9th grade, haha) I have about a 4.3 so far senior year after the 1st semester. Took 2 AP's junior year (english 3, chem) and taking 3 ap's this year (english 4, environmental science, calc ab). Also took 4 honors soph year (chem, chinese 3, algebra 2, accounting 1), 3 honors junior year (physics, chinese 4, precalc), and taking 1 honors class this year (accounting 2).
Rank: school does not rank but im in the 2nd decile.
Excellent Teacher and Counselor Recommendations - precalc honors teacher, chinese teacher, high school tennis coach.
Decent Essays
Ethnicity: Asian. Would this help me b/c I believe asians are a small minority at UNC at 6%.

Extra curriculars:
FBLA (9-12) - Member for 4 years, participated in the International Business competition this year and placed 4th at regionals...on to states in march!
National Honor Society Member (11-12)
Chinese Honor Society (10-12) - Vice president junior and senior years.
Senior Buddy Program (12) - group leader
Chamber Orchestra (9-12) - 1st violin
Volunteer at Local Library - 4 hours per week for about 8 weeks in the summer
Varsity Boys Tennis (9-12) - 4 year varsity letter winner/singles starter. Captain and 1st singles junior and senior years. All County, All Conference, All Group honors. Top 15 player in NJ. However I don't expect to play at unc cause their tennis program is ridiculously good.

Thanks for reading guys and/or gals!

Our stats are very similar...
I am from NJ, 1340, 3.84UW, top 5%, play Varsity Tennis on a Sectional Winning Team, FBLA, NHS, Volutneerm among many other things.

Except... I'm not Asian and I am female. I also applied EA. I don't know if you did.

I think it's up in the air as to whether or not either one of us will get in but if I get in, you probably have a good chance. Good luck!

i feel so bad for you out of staters, because with those stats, you would easily be in if you were in-state :(

haha tell me about it.

Anyone else care to comment on my chances?

jerseyco, what school do you go to?

BTW, i applied for regular notification (way too lazy to finish my app for EA b/c i had cornell and umich to do).

I'd rather not say online but in Union County, a small public school. No one would really know it hehe. How about you, if you don't mind posting.

I decided to do EA like last minute.

I think you have a decent chance. Though i was checking on UNC and they say that their average GPA was 4.3!!! I wouldn't worry about that too much though because people from my school (miami, fl) in the past few years with similar grades to yours have gotten in (though they did applied ED (When UNC used to have it) and some applied EA) Your increase in grades would be a boost, and minority status may be also to your advantage (As well as good EC). I am similar to you in some ways. I applied regular decision this year and I have weighted GPA of 3.7/4. (had a 3.0, then a 3.8, then a 4.2, have a 4.5 so far this yr) SAT of 1370, (I didn't sent my II's because my verbal was not that great (540)), similar clubs and got pretty good essay and rec. Oh ya, also Asian. Anyways, do you know if UNC wants midyr or no? I hope they do...

(I didn't sent my II's because my verbal was not that great (540)),

TheKidd, what are you saying there? First of all, there's no verbal section in SATII. Second of all, you can't just send SATI score unless you sent the scores before you took SATIIs.

Oh, my bad, I had meant Writing. I know, and I took the SAT I test before the II's and send them out before I even took the II's.

that makes sense..

For EA, UNC said they would notify you if they want your midyear grade. When they contact you, they send you a link to submit your grade. For some reason UNC wants the midyear report from the student, not the high school. If you were not contacted, then they do not need your scores.

I don't know about RD.

pockey 318 -- Did you apply EA? Did they request that you submit mid-year grades? I was kind of just assuming that that would be something the might want for RD applicants but not really enough time to process for EA applicants.

My daughter applied EA and did not need to submit her grades.
