Out of State Favoritism(?)

Is it true that Rice gives more weight i to applicants who are non-Texans (and, for that matter, non-Houstonians)?

it really depends on where you from. It also depends on how many people apply from your school and area.

It is generally much harder if many applicants apply from the same school as they can compare people.

You should not reach any conclusions based solely on the percentage of applicants accepted from Texas vs OOS. The OOS applicant pool is self-selective and statistically very strong. Although the percentage accepted from the large number of Texas applicants might be somewhat smaller than the percentage of OOS applicants accepted, the profiles of Texas and OOS matriculants are similar, although the accents are different.
