Do OOS get more preference?

Do Out of State applicants get more preference in admission to Rice?

By the numbers, yes. That’s mainly because there are less applicants and you aren’t battling other applicants from the same region or school.

Yes. Underrepresented states will get more preference. Rice’s student pop is near 50% Texan as well so OOS will definitely give you an edge.

Does it help if someone from you school currently attends? I think she is the first one to attend Rice since my school opened in 2001

@ninadasiy I don’t think it helps you gain admission, but knowing who gets admitted and rejected from Rice out of your high school’s population can give you an idea of how your chances are.
