Out of State Scholarships

I was wondering if anyone knew the chances of me receiving merit scholarships as an out of state student and how much it would amount to. I have a 31 on my ACT and a 4.06 gpa. I am Student Council President, a member of NHS, I have over 100 service hours through one charity helping handicapped kids, and I am involved in about 5 other clubs.

Yeah, you’ll definitely get the in-state price for Penn State. For some reason they give most out-of-state applicants a scholarship that makes tuition the same as in-state.

What do you need to qualify for the in-state tuition scholarship? I’m from Florida and that would be a lifesaver…

I have never heard of Penn State granting an out of state tuition waiver. They are happy to accept full pay OOS students .

Penn State is notoriously stingy with scholarships. They are not a private school so they do not do ‘price matching’ to in state prices like some private schools do. In fact, like @kidncatz, I’ve never heard of that before. Do not count on a lot of OOS scholarship money. If you apply to the Honors College and get in, they do give a smallish scholarship but it’s not dependent on residency - and also some of the different colleges within Penn State give merit scholarships. But I’ve never heard of an OOS student getting enough to bring the cost down to in state levels. Penn State scholarships are rare and not at all enough to cover tuition.

@NathanShelton10 I also am from Florida and got accepted. Lmk if you get any scholarships.

You got accepted already?

When applying to Penn State, just assume you’ll get zilch in terms of scholarships and aid. Anything above and beyond $0 will be a nice surprise. PSU is not generous. My daughter had her roommate all lined up but she decided not to come. She got full scholarship offers or generous partials at every school except PSU. She walked away after paying out the $330 deposit.

@mackintoshm What you posted is incorrect. Penn State gives virtually no aid or scholarships to OOS students. If you can cite a source for your claim, other than “what I heard”, please do.
