Out of State Student going to UCSC vs Grand View University in Iowa?

UCSC gave me only around $20,000 which left me with in state tuition (about $34,000) which I will have to take a loan out for. Grand View University is leaving me with only $16,000 in loans per year. By the time I graduate UCSC I will have around $`136,000 in loans compared to $64,000 from Grand View. I also want to attend Med School!

Grand View is obviously the cheaper school but other things I consider are alumni network, quality of education, and medical network. UCSC has what I'm looking for but the cost is outrageous for a kid from Chicago.

Has anyone had an experience attending a UC school out of state and had to pay as much as I am? I really want to go to UCSC but my parents say I should "save my debt" for Medical School. Grand View is in Des Moines and doesn't have as many connections as UCSC does.

Please let me know your input!

I don’t know if I’ll be much of help, but my brother is going to UCSC(wants to be a surgeon). What he did was he went to a community college for two years in California. Later on transferred to UCSC. The reason he did this is because if he went as a non-resident it would of costed him a lot of money,so he decided to become a resident and applied as a transfer student. Also the admissions office love him because he was top of his class at his community college. This actually got him noticed BIG time because he started getting letter from other out of state Universities wanting him to go to their school. But nope my brother declined and now he’s in UCSC. Again I don’t know if this helped you.
