Out of State Tuition

Dear Out of State Candidates…

Our DS has loved Clemson but the Trustees are showing a persistent and unfortunate continued trend to soak out of state students. OOS Tuition has increased by much more than in state every year he has been at the school.

“The trustees approved a 2.75 percent tuition increase for in-state undergraduate students, or $197 per semester for a full time-student. Out-of-state undergraduate tuition will increase by 4.25 percent, or $727 per semester. Starting in the fall of 2017, posted tuition and fees for full-time South Carolina residents will be $7,356 per semester and $17,827 for non-resident students.”

Sor, for next year… $400 increase for In state, $1,400+ for OOS. Wow.

The state of SC only pays 10% of the school’s budget so the rationale that taxpayers pay for the school doesn’t get you too far.

As long as instate tuition is relatively low SC taxpayers will not care what they charge OOS students. The extra OOS revenue may be used to provide grants to in state students.
