OOS Tuition Trend?

Can anyone with a current OOS Clemson student, or anyone that has been tracking tuition increases, share what the increases have been for the last 3-4 years? When DS began considering Clemson nearly 3 years ago it seemed within a reasonable range of affordability but it is now moving beyond that range. Am I getting more sensitive to COA and all its moving parts or has the gap between IS and OOS tuition grown that much over time? If so, do you think the gap will continue to widen because their profile has increased to the point that they no longer “need” to attract the OOS student based on cost?

Good questions, Cheeringsection. I called Clemson and was told that tuition increases averaged between 2-5% over the last few years. A Google search shows OOS tuition increasing 4.25% for 2015-16 and 3.19% for 2014-15. I totally agree that what seemed like a somewhat affordable tuition gap for OOS students just a few years ago seems to be moving more and more out of range. Even with my daughters merit scholarship, I’m trying to figure out if we can justify the OOS tuition, especially if it keeps going up at such a high rate. She also wants to live in the new honors housing next year, and it looks like the fee for that is significantly higher than for the other dorms - yet another extra expense. So disappointing – we visited again this weekend, and aside from $$, it’s perfect for her in every other way. :frowning:

Thanks for sharing. Don’t forget there is also a fee to participate in honors or was that for being in the LLC? Anyway, my DS has opted for a more affordable option elsewhere. The increasing gap between in state and OOS tuition scared us off.
