<p>Thanks for telling me that college board provides tuition information. According to college board, the tuition cost is $22,606. The total cost without credit costs is about $26,500. I would say that I trust college board more than career cruising, but career cruising did give a nice estimate. And yes, I was mistaken about the National Merit Scholarships. That amount would be the total received for all four years.</p>
<p>S2-Sorph OOS. Most likely you will get just enough by the time you pieces all the scholarship together especially for OOS for freshman. The package seems to be larger because the U still add in all the OOS charges and substract them out for accounting purpose. 1st yr you get slightly higher if you are NMF. 2nd yr the amount is less, unless you are the super smart genious that obtain departmental or other scholarships. </p>

<p>However, I keep on being confused whether or not the $36,000 would all be given the freshman year. I just got a letter from Texas A &M saying that I would be guaranteed “an additional $34,000 (National Merit Semifinalists already get $2,000) package” if I became a finalist. I still am not sure if that is just an amount for the first year and I’ll get some more money, but not necessarily that full amount in later years, or if that’s all the money I’ll ever get for National Merit.</p>

<p>I am a freshman national merit scholar here at A&M and I think I can help clarify a few things. </p>
<p>First, for honors scholarship holders, the cost of out of state tuition is waived and you pay in-state tuition. (Source: [Freshman</a> Scholarships | Honors Programs | Texas A&M University<a href=“At%20the%20bottom”>/url</a>)</p>
<p>Secondly, the $38,000 that all national merit finalists receive will be supplemented with either a $10,000 or a $12,000 scholarship (The Lechner/McFadden or President’s Endowed Scholarships, respectively) (Source: [url=<a href=“Honors - LAUNCH”>Honors - LAUNCH]National</a> Merit | Honors Programs | Texas A&M University](<a href=“Honors - LAUNCH”>Honors - LAUNCH)) (Also the Lechner/McFadden and President’s Endowed Scholarships are mentioned on the first link I posted)</p>
<p>I don’t know a single person who is a national merit scholar here who doesn’t have either the $10,000 or $12,000 scholarship mentioned at the top of that page, so those are basically guaranteed.</p>
<p>This brings the total amount of scholarships you will earn (besides small ones such as departmental ones (generally around 1,000/yr)) to around $50,000. All of this money is broken up and awarded semester by semester. With the cost of attendance for instate people being around $20,000 per year for everything, your scholarship should pay for at least 2.5 years of school, plus or minus some depending on how frugal you are. So estimating that you need an additional $30,000 for all four years here, over 8 semesters the cost per semester comes out to ABOUT $3750 for everything.</p>

<p>For Freshman, the U do understand it cost more to settle so you do receive slightly more to off set the cost. For us, freshman, we paid about few hundred per semester. There after, you will pay ~$3-$5K per semester (not including summer school). The amount varies depend on your spending habit, housing choice, meal plan, sport pass, entertainment pass (music/play) selection etc. From what I gather, living off campus is cheaper. However, my S2 has been living on campus so we have no comment until we have gone through the process. Having say that, the U do not recommend freshman live off campus. If you are OOS and needs to fly, the airfare+van ~$300-$500 per RT. Most students make 2/3-RT trips per year.</p>
<p>This year with the updated “Howdy”, the U actually break down the OOS fee and tuition (UG-NR) by line items. One can actually see how the accounting is add and subtract accordingly. Do keep tract of those confusing line items, as we have error twice and needed correction and it jump few thousand. Print out entire bill per update and match line by line and ask your parents for help if needed. Best wishes.</p>
<p>1) ipopova, For OOS, the amount given per year has to be ~$38K. Your total package should be listed as 4 year >110K. Remember you are OOS, so it appear to be larger then in state. Never mind you will pay in state. The U has to keep clear accounting and it will offset during the billing.<br>
2)Look at your package, put all those mention “four Years Award” into one category. Add all those scholarships together. Divide that by 8 (4Yrs x 2 semester), that is how much you will receive per semester. BTW, majority scholarships in this category has the requirement cGPR=3.5 for each semester. It is not easy!
3)Put all scholarships that you will receive for “One time or One yr”. Add them together. Divide by 2 (Freshman yr x 2 semester). This are the amount you will only receive for Freshman per semester.
4) Forget about this “Study Aboard St pend, Transition Scholarship”. This are special event where you will apply later if needed. It you take 5 yrs to graduate you are toss.
5) Don’t count this for now, unless you are super genius (I mean literately especially you are in Engineering). For University Scholar Award, Engineering Study Aboard Scholarship, Undergraduate Summer Research Program. The U most likely will give those scholarship to the Cream of the Crop or somebody did not have or little scholarships. It is the right and fair thing to do on their part. So, don’t count on this extra fund.
6) After all this, base on OOS estimate 09-10 $35.7K x 4 = $142.8 K, minus all your item #1 and #2, you will know minimum how much you should need per semester. Obviously you can get loan, work study etc to supplement. We did not have experience on that and cannot comment.<br>
