Out of State undergraduate financial aid

I'm wondering what kind of financial aid out of state students get in the UC system. Would they get the same opportunities for financial aid as a California resident?

no they don't
few if any states offer the same financial support to out of state or international students

State schools are supported by state taxes, while some state schools, may encourage those from other states to attend, this is not because they want to give them the local taxpayers money;), but because of the expectation that out of state students, will pay out of state rates

So, out of state students have to take out all private loans to pay for their first year of school?

no -- you have to pay out of state tuition for all four years. Establishing residency in California is not something that is easy to do while attending school: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/ca_residency.html

I don't understand why they would have to pay out of state tuition for all 4 years. I'm transferring anyway, so it would be 2 years, but it should be pretty easy to establish residency in a year. I'm in a messed up situation, I just recently established my California residency for a CCC but now im forced to go back to my home state because of family issues. I have to finish the rest of my requred 60 semester credits out of state, so im going to lose my California Reisdency. I still want to transfer back into a UC though, im not worried about establishing residency, just concerned about how im going to pay for the huge first years tuition.
