Out of State

Do you think there is a significant difference in the difficulty level for getting into UVA out of state and in state? Is it true that it is a lot easier to get in in-state? Thaks for the help

By the numbers, yes it’s much easier for IS than OOS. This is due to the 2/3 quota for in-state applicants.

From Dean J’s blog, stats for class of 2013:
Overall offers: 6,331 total offers (28.9%)
Total VA offers: 3,276 offers (42.7%)
Total OOS offers: 3,055 offers (22%)

So it’s almost 2x as difficult for OOS, neglecting other factors like self-selection etc.
