I was looking at the school profile for my high school and some things have not been updated that could hurt me. Due to budget cuts, a lot of AP courses got replaced with the much more popular Dual Credit Classes which are also taught at my High School.
For example AP Biology was dropped and replaced with Dual Credit Biology, which again is taught at my high school by an approved teacher through a 4 year university program. You get college credit if you get a C or above and it will be on your college and high school transcript.
However my GC refuses to update it and still lists the AP courses that haven’t been offered sine 2010. It does list most of the Dual Credit courses offered though…
Will this hurt me? I’m going to take the dual credit versions of those dropped AP classes. Since my GC refuses to update it, should I mention it in the essay or additional information section?
It could hurt you, yes. I would let the schools know that the courses are not offered by sending your own copies of the profile to your schools with your corrections marked in red, as well as in the additional info seciton. I’d also let the superindent of the schools know this.
This would go in additional information, not your essay.
It sounds like you are a junior now, so hopefully someone at your high school will do the right thing and correct the school profile before fall. I agree with cptofthehouse that a school profile that is outdated by four years is something that the school board would want to know about. You can send an annotated copy anonymously to the HS administration requesting updates.
Yeah I’ll do those things, hopefully an anonymously email will be taken seriously.
I highly doubt anyone else will/can change it but the GC since the school profile is just so unacknowledged by everyone in my school. The school profile can’t be found anywhere on the internet and the only way was I literally had to go up the my GC and request one emailed to me. Maybe that’s the reason why my lazy GC won’t change it, no one knows it exist or can’t access it without a lot of hassle.
It needs changed - definitely push for it. Part of your application hinges on whether you have taken up opportunities at your school, and if it is showing a bunch of APs that are no longer taught, AdComs might assume you are slacking even if you are taking the highest level of courses available.
You’ve got me concerned now… my school dropped AP Calc AB because of lack of students. Ah well, applications are already in.
