Outdoor/Environmentally focused fields

Hello everyone,

I currently need some insight into some different majors. I am in my 2nd year of college and feel pressured to make a choice. I enjoy technology and the outdoors, and I am also passionate about the environment and renewable energy. Connecting these dots has lead me towards environmental engineering. I am reconsidering this because my uncle who is a electrical engineer told me that I should go for chemical, mechanical, or electrical because they are more broad and provide better job security. I am also considering geology but I hear all the good money is in the oil business.

Any information would be extremely helpful,

Thank you

I believe that through the other engineering fields you can still work towards the environment, an environmental engineering is a specific field. How strong are your school’s connections with that field? Are you sure that you want to do that for your life? The other ones can be more flexible, yet if you are looking specifically towards environmental fields they will appreciate your background. Perhaps an adviser or professor at your school can also help you out.
