Outdoor Leadership

I'm going to Warren Wilson next year and I'm going to be majoring in Outdoor Leadership. I'm very excited about this.
Maybe one day I'll start my own outdoor adventure buisness and lead wilderness and camping trips!

Good Luck to you.

My DD is a Outdoor Rec Mngt major - LOVES it - there is some Bus Mngt and Rec Therapy thrown in there too. She is very active in the schools Adventure Program thru the Student Rec Center - and has had a blast doing things like camping - rock climbing - caving - etc.......spent last spring break in the Everglades and will be going out west in May to Utah and Colorado for 3 weeks - a school sponsored trip. She spent last summer on the Outer Banks of NC - which was an amazing experience also. Enjoy it - it has been a great experience so far.

She actually started as a pre-physical therapy major - that didn't last long once she started getting involved in the Adventure Program things - that was an eye opener and when she found out she could actually major in something that involved those types of things - that was it - off and running in that direction. She declared last fall and is well on her way not. Not sure if she will pursue a masters in this field - yet to figure that out - but no problem - she will figure it out eventually - but in the mean time she is really enjoying what she is doing and studying.

Thats really cool! Does she know what sort of carreer she might want to pursue with that when she finishes?

She really isn't sure exactly where she will land - but she does know - thru researching things on-line - that there are alot of opportunities out there for her - altho she is aware that she will never get rich in this field - she sure intends to be a happy camper - pardon the pun haha. But.....she loves the outdoors and working with people - 2 things she is very good at - and I have NO doubt she will land in a place that will make her happy.

She is an avid snow boarder and will most likely get certified for adaptive instructor and she is also scuba certified - one of classes last semester - and may also follow the adaptive diving thing too. She is still in the process of discovering the things she can do with this major - and every experience she participates in opens more doors for her - this still in toss-up mode - but things will fall into place for her when the time comes. She is interested in adventure based programs also and may be doing a NOLS program for credit - not sure of that yet.

Where is the school located that you will be attending?? What part of the country is it in?? - AHHA - NC !!! The outdoor programs and facilities in NC are awesome - as are the opportunities also. DD is also in NC at ECU.

The school my DD attends has a great rec/adventure program for the students - which has really given her many opportunities to learn and to explore alot of venues which apply to her major. She went on a freshman trip with the school and was offered a job with the adventure program at the school - so she is very involved now with things that apply directly to her major. Enjoy your major - it is some hard work but fun also.

Thats so cool!
The school i'm planing to attend is in Asheville NC, in the blue ridge mts.

What school does she go to? is it private or public?

She is at East Carolina Univ. in Greenville, NC - public - tho hales from New England. She has met a few of the kids at App State also - some thru the snowboard team - and some thru the adventure program - also in a beautiful area. BTW what a beautiful area for you to go to school in.

Right now the mountains of NC are getting pummeled with snow - and she is very jealous - she loves snowboarding - we in New England are also getting alot of snow.

Check out www.nols.edu - great programs there - for college credit or semester away also.
