Outdoor Odyssey

^loll… As an incoming freshman, I’m no help to you x)

Anyway, I can’t seem to find the costs of this trip. This closest information I found was:

"How do I pay for my trip?

The trip cost will be billed to your bursar account during the fall semester. Any cancellation or rental fees will also be billed in this manner."

D did the 4 day backpack trip. Can’t remember if it was finger lakes or catskills to be honest. She had a ball and is still in touch with many from her trip. You meet lots of kids on other trips. And the kids are a lot more relaxed on move in day because they have already had 5 days to adjust to college life, meet new friends, explore campus a bit and get some sage advice from upper classman.

I think the cost was around $400. It is money well spent. And they do accommodate the trips to the kids in the group. I think you have to be able to carry a 35# backpack. D said they had this one really tiny indian girl on the trip–she carried 25# but she was a real trooper.

Great program. Orientation does not really introduce you to many kids. Its very loose and the students want to get out of it as fast as they can so outdoor odyssey is your opportunity to bond with your new classmates.

one more thing. My D had an added level of confidence in the beginning. She already knew people on her floor in her dorm. Kids from the trip popped into her room on move in day to catch up. It was like she had this group of friends already. Her room mate did not. The difference was really stark.

As the parent, I hated not being able to talk with her for 4 days while she was on the trip, but it ended up being a good thing. She was so excited for school to start when she got back.

If you can afford to–do the trip.

Do the 4-day backpacking trips in the finger lakes/catskills include rock climbing?
