Hey everyone! I’m currently a junior at Cornell and a guide for the pre-orientation program Outdoor Odyssey. It’s a program that takes groups of students out into the woods for 4, 6, or 8 days right before orientation starts, and it’s an awesome chance to meet new freshmen and make connections with upperclassmen guides before you even get to campus. No outdoor experience is necessary, either. I’m posting so that I can answer any questions people have about what it’s like or how to register
Btw the link to register is here: https://odyssey.coe.cornell.edu/register
I’m hopefully going to attend Cornell, and Outdoor Odyssey sounds cool, but I’ve never hiked or camped or done anything outdoors. Am I still eligible to go if I don’t have experience?
I’m a current Cornell student and OO is the best thing I have done at Cornell so far!!! I highly recommend it, it honestly gave me my best friends to this day! It is so much fun and such a great way to get to know other Cornell students before you even start. I was so much less nervous starting O-week bc I had such great friends
yeah of course! I didn’t have any experience before I did my trip, hadn’t even gone camping lol. But your guides give you a gear list and we’ve got anything you’d need (backpacks, sleeping bags, etc.) available for rent. You don’t need any experience or outdoor skills going in
how many people are there on each trip? is there financial aid available?
thanks for the question girlwhocodes00!! Trips typically have 2-3 guides and 5-9 trippers (depends on the area and length of trip). We do have financial aid–the forms are on our website (https://odyssey.coe.cornell.edu/faq#finaid) and our aid process is based off of the aid Cornell gives each student.
Hope that answered your questions!
