Outdoors/Sports/Parties

Can anybody comment on Dartmouth's student body in general. I love everything about the school but I'm not sure whether it would be some where I would fit in. Is it like Williams where sports are a major thing? Are the people very outdoorsy? Is drinking and partying a major aspect of campus life? Any opinions would be extremely helpful.

bump...b/c I have the exact same questions...I think that I'm really starting to like dartmouth!

1) Not that sports oriented at all.
2) People are outdoorsy, but plenty arent.
3) Drinking and partying is a HUGE part of campus life, but there are alternatives for those who want them like any college.

This is in another thread about dorm assignments, but half of the incoming class requested sub-free: there are plenty of kids not into drinking and partying!

thanks slipper and saila. appreciate the opinions. Still trying to decide whether dartmouth would be the place for me and whether I should even bother applying lol.

Saila, are you sure that half of the incoming class requested sub-free? I didn't even request it, but I got assigned to it anyway... I would assume that not enough people requested it if they had to assign random people to sub-free dorms. I'll go off in search of the thread you mentioned, you're probably right in your numbers but it just seems odd to me.

Of course, a couple other non-requested sub-free kids and I are planning our inaugural cocktail party - we're really going to work the irony... So it doesn't even matter anyway.

So excited for this fall, you?

I remember it was a stat athena mentioned. I was pretty surprised as well, but surprised in a good way. Sorry I don't remember the exact thread, but it was one of the ones about housing assignments.

hey G,

D was talking about you last night as she cannot wait to see you on campus and hopes you are getting excited about coming to Hanover.

Regarding sub free housing Athena said:

Gracilisae, I wouldn't be too worried. A lot of people request sub free not because they don't drink/are opposed to drinking, but they just choose not to do it in their room or on their floor. More than half of the first year class is in subfree housing, and I promise you, WAY more than half of the first year class will be drinking by the end of freshman fall. You will make plenty of friends you can go out drinking with, but you will be able to return to a more quiet environment to crash.

"Gracilisae"

Think of it this way: you have a quieter, cleaner room to which you can come home after going out. I doubt you'll be inconvenienced in the least. Besides, you'll be over visiting me in EW anyways....haha.

Ivy,

Which EW room are you in?

Zimmerman 3rd floor
