Outrageous racist ad against Harold Ford Jr.

klf1120,

I think it's possible, but hard, not to see the racist undertones. I of course caution against ascribing to malice what could just be pure stupidity, but looking at the way they juxtapose "black" and "white," I think you have an uphill battle.

Of course, not all uphill battles are lost.

Watching the ad, the only thing that really got my attention was the whole "playboy" attribute. I guess I have the stereotype that all playboy girls are white and blonde and took nothing else of it. Like I said, I was more concerned with the whole "indecency" factor.

That's understandable. If anything, I think that your take on it is a good, if only somewhat politically naive, way to look at things. In the grand scheme of things, however, it's most excellent that people aren't looking at it racially.

Of course, we can get into issues of "latent" attitudes and whatnot, but those I think are beyond the scope of our little discussion.

I know what your getting at. I understand that those ads are meant to, for lack of a better phrase, "take low blows" at one another. It really is ashame that part of our political process has come to that.

"I guess I have the stereotype that all playboy girls are white and blonde and took nothing else of it. Like I said, I was more concerned with the whole "indecency" factor"

I would think in the last couple of weeks you should have more concern reguarding the conservative side of things as the people they choose to party with aren't young blonde women. I think their is a greater "ick" factor
in the gop right now. There is a difference between a black man dating a white woman and a conservative man trying to date young boys in "ick" factor. Not to mention gay sex and drug use while married with 5 kids.

By the way, playboy is pretty tame and the woman in the commerical wouldn't make it. 1

Too bad it doesn't matter now!! Bob Corker JUST WON!!!!! :)
