outside major courses

Hey guys. I am an incoming freshman. I am in the college of arts and sciences.
I know that I have to take 20 courses outside my major and 16 major-related courses to graduate with a degree.
Can I choose any 20 courses to fulfill this requirement? Or do they somehow have to related to my major? For example, if I am studying Economics can I choose course in Physics and Astronomy?
I happen to find no information regarding the outside major courses

These outside the major courses can be in any subject, as long as you fulfill the sector and foundational requirements with them. The courses inside the major (which can be anywhere from 12 to 20 credits) are completely separate from those outside the major (which can be anywhere from 16-20 mandatory credits, since the maximum number of credits you need to graduate is 36 credits). If you are studying Economics, you can take quite a few courses in Physics and Astronomy if you want to. In fact, a lot of people pursue a minor using these outside of the major credits.

The info under the “Credits Needed for Graduation by Major” tab should be helpful: https://www.college.upenn.edu/electives-policy#list
