Hey! Can anyone please recommend some outside scholarships I can apply for?
A little bit about me:
- I’m Nigerian but I live in South Africa
-Stanford 2022 with good financial aid but there is an amount I’m expected to work for so I’m trying to see if I can get a scholarship to cover that.
How much do you need to work for?
You need to ask Stanford about this. International students are limited as to working hours and locations. Stanford has a lot of international students and can tell you where they find jobs.
Also, if the funds come in the form of a scholarship, you have to report it to Stanford and it may lower your financial aid. It’s a Catch 22. If they want you to work for the rest, they may really want you to WORK for it Go through Stanford.
Working on campus is actually good for you. You’ll need that on your resume. And typically Stanford would expect about 8 hours a week which would not impact your grades.
Yeah it’s about 8 hours a week @MYOS1634
@thumper1 it’s around 2800 USD… So not that much
Please understand that a work study offer from Stanford is a CHANCE.
What do you have against earning your own spending money and building your resume?
I understand that the OP wants to guarantee the amount he has to pay to Stanford with an outside scholarship. It’s hard not to know how he’s going to pay that last $2800. However, all scholarships need to be reported and Stanford MIGHT reduce other aid. It’s tricky.
Thanks @MYOS1634 @twoinanddone. I’ll take the work study as an opportunity… But will still enquire with the Financial Aid office on how they handle outside scholarships should I get one.
