Okay I'm really confused about outside scholarships so if anyone could clarify some things that would be great.

My EFC was roughly $32,000 (overestimated, of course). The cost of attendance for me was estimated to be $50,060. Here's my package from NYU:

Scholarship: $6,542
Workstudy: $4,000
Perkins Loan: $2,400
Stafford Loan: $2,625 (or whatever the max is)

That adds up to $15,567, leaving $34,493 that we have to pay.

Now, I know the first part of outside scholarships go towards "unmet need," right? So that would be about $2500. But what about if you have more outside scholarship money? Does it reduce all of your workstudy, loans, and NYU scholarships (I didn't get grant money, it's a "Tisch Scholarship" and THEN if there's any left it goes towards the $32,000 my family is expected to pay?? (And if so, what order does it reduce them in?) I read some stuff about it on NYU's financial aid page, but it didn't really make sense to me, so I was wondering if anyone here knew. Because that would seriously suck if they reduced my NYU scholarship due to outside scholarships, still leaving us to pay that big number.

Also, how do we go about reporting outside scholarships to NYU? (Haha sorry, I know very very little about any kind of fin aid.)
