overall perception

What is the overall perception of each of the following schools:

Drew University - Madison, NJ
Rutgers University - New Brunswick, NJ
The College of New Jersey - Ewing, NJ

Which is the overall "best" school. Not considering major or cost, just overall?

TCNJ has the most competitive standards, but then again, Rutgers has honors programs that make it desirable as well, and its name is better known. Drew is pretty and pleasant, but its reputation has faded in recent years. It depends on if you like small schools or big schools. People who have heard of TCNJ will be favorably impressed, but if they haven’t, then Rutgers would be better.

Should I apply for the TCNJ honors program if I already got into a “better” school?

Also, I do not care about the size.

What do you want out of a college? Rutgers is a giant state university with everything under the sun, but there’s little guidance and you will be on your own to achieve whatever you choose or do not choose. TCNJ is smaller and more nurturing, has an excellent in-state rep, but is not as well known OOS nor does it have the breadth of programs that Rutgers has. Drew is a pleasant environment but expensive for the product, in my view. Of the the three, it is academically the least distinguished (but by no means a poor school). You need to look at yourself, your personality, your interests, and needs, and then make a decision.

I am looking for a school with good Journalism, Theatre, Pre-Law programs. Size makes no difference. I sort of want something with a good “rep” but obvsiously that is not THE most important thing I just wana find jobs after school!

“Pre-law” is not a major; you could study anything in the liberal arts and sciences and still apply to law school. Job outlooks in journalism and theater are not good. Finding jobs depends on how well you do, what connections you make, how you are able to market yourself, and a lot of luck. The school you attend cannot magically guarantee you a job.

It sounds as if you need to focus your goals a bit more before determining which school would be best for you. Also, size does matter. If you need a lot of support and have a hard time making decisions, Rutgers may not be the best place for you right now. Drew or TCNJ would offer more guidance.

Ok, thanks.
First, I know “Pre-law” is not a major, that is why I said program, I mean as far as advising, law school placement, etc.
Second, I know Journalism and Theater are not good, but those are my dreams and I am determined to stick to them.
Third, I know what my goals are, sorry if that is not coming across! I do not mind a large or small school, I do not plan on having someone to hold my hand throughout four years at all.

Hope that clears some stuff up for you.

Does anyone else have any other opinons on this matter?
