Hi Everyone,

I am applying to BME Ph.D. programs and fortunately was accepted at a few programs. All of the schools I have been accepted at have a recruitment weekend. Two of my top choices have their recruitment event on the same weekend. I am very interested in both schools and want to learn more about them, but neither school listed alternative weekends I could visit on. I want to email one or both of them and ask if it would be possible to visit on a different weekend, but I am afraid the schools will think I am not strongly considering them or am seeking special treatment. Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? Any advice would be much appreciated.

You have been accepted already at these programs (i.e. you have the official letter in your virtual hands)?

I don’t have personal experience, but I would pick a school to visit, and then email the other one informing them that I will be missing the weekend due to unfortunate schedule conflicts (no need to specify). I’d ask for another day. If there is not another day or weekend, then I might contact the POI at the school and inform them I intend to visit still and ask if they have a preferred date.

This happens all the time; there’s only so many days in the spring for various schools to do interviews. Just let whichever one know you can’t make it during that weekend, but you’d still really like to visit. They’ll likely arrange for a grad student or two to show you around, schedule meetings with the professors you want to talk to, and treat you to a meal or two.

S1 had the same problem and he was lucky that the colleges were only about 80 miles apart (he gets to see both this weekend).

He had a similar problem with a college wanting him to come for a visit (for which they were willing to pay (flight and lodging) but they wanted him to come in the middle of the week during a week he just couldn’t get away. He spoke to the admin. people and they set up a Skype interview and offered a different time to visit.

Talk to em and see if they will set up a different time. If they want you it will happen.
