Who reading this has been on an "overnight visit" to MIT?

Any recommendations re. "don'ts" or "must-dos?"

If you're already an MIT student, and you went on an "overnight," how well have your impressions from the visit matched your actual experience at MIT?

I'm psyched for mine and want to make sure I make the most of my visit.

^He did, in fact, have the coolest host(s) ever. (Because he stayed with me and my now-fiance.) :D

I went on a non-CPW overnight, and I'm really glad I did. It had the effect of making MIT a real place to me, and I got to meet people and discover that they were incredibly welcoming and kind and helpful. (I had been really nervous before I went that people would be stuck-up or inaccessible.)

That experience was pretty similar to my MIT life, although I stayed in a dorm that is considered pretty culturally dissimilar from the dorm I lived in as an undergrad. So my actual "social" experience as an undergrad was somewhat different.

I would recommend, if possible, exploring a few different dorms. I've had prefrosh come into the dorm randomly and ask for a tour, and I've always personally been willing to oblige. Your host will probably also know people in other dorms who would be able to give you a tour.

Your host will probably be totally willing to take you everywhere during your visit, but don't hesitate to wander around by yourself for at least a few hours if you want.
