Overrepresenting an EC?

I'm incredibly involved with Russian Club at my school--been an officer for four years, president for two, it's a huge commitment and we do a lot. My essay is about saving the Russian program at my school from budget cuts. My Russian teacher & club advisor is writing one of my recs and I'm sure she'll talk about my work in the club.

My question is, should I use the 150-word common app EC essay to write MORE about Russian? Is that overkill, OR would it look really weird if I wrote about something else? I've got plenty of options, and I'd kind of like to show off a different aspect of myself, but on the other hand Russian Club is a pretty unique thing that I definitely want to highlight.

Thanks!

I think you should highlight it. It will make you stick out, esp if ur not of russian descent.

but get more opinions. talk to ur counselor

That's a great passion to have -- you have some good essay topics. It's a very good idea to portray your passion in your essays. Do, however, make sure not to portray yourself as one-dimensional. The short short essays usually help with this. But for what you described above, I'd say definitely talk about Russian in both, as long as you aren't simply repeating information.

Hmm, I'm not sure I would advise using the Russian theme, even if it is your passion, in both essays. Your list of ECs, your teacher/sponsors rec and your main essay will highlight your passion for Russian. Since you say you have other interests you could talk about, that's what I'd advise. You want the schools to see a bit more of you - something that shows a different aspect of your personality. JMO

Yeah- that might be a wee bit on the overkill.
Although a fascinating topic; I'm stumped.

Write the short essay in Russian and provide English translation! :) Just kidding! It is a tough language to learn, so be proud of your accomplishments.

Heh, every other post advises the opposite of the one before! Thanks anyway everyone. I think I'll ask my (utterly unhelpful) college counselor about this one...
