UCLA; no question.......

so i got accepted to oxford, waitlisted at emory.
got into ucla
im from the city of los angeles

I know LA very well, but I really don’t know anything about Emory/Atlanta.

I’m a city kind of girl, but education is definitely the priority. So, which would be better for me?

Although Emory is better academically, Oxford is not. Go with UCLA and stay on the Emory waitlist.

^interesting, everyone (on FB and in this forum) says that Oxford classes are harder because the classes are smaller.

Have you checked which one is better for what you will major in? Both are really nice schools. Also I HEARD Oxford isn’t really in the city, but 30 mins away in the middle of nowhere…so I dunno how you would like that. I’m saying UCLA for now unless you get into Emory via waitlist.

i want to do mathematics and marketing

im deciding between ucla, nyu and emory
but emory is still in the air. i dont know if ill really like oxford, because i’m a city girl
but emory has a great undergraduate business program, as well as nyu.
the thing with nyu is that i have to long at least 40% of the tuition each year.
I just don’t know if it’ll be worth it for me to be in debt with a nyu degree
i am still waiting to hear back from emory’s financial aid office

To Emory 2013?
From what I have gathered on old post and from Oxford students, sorry to break it to ya but Oxford is more academically challenging. I’m not saying this because i did not get into Emory but I got into Oxford, I’m saying this because it is soooooo true believe it or not. They do not grade assignments on a curve so its pretty hard to get an A than it is on main campus. Just because Oxford’s stats aren’t as high as Emory’s doesn’t mean that Oxford lacks academically or that the students are “dumb”. There’s more to it than test scores, even though yes you got to be smart to make a 2400 and such. But there are a lot of smart students who do as well on the exam. The val in my class is the hardest working girl that I know but she made a 1700 on the SAT.
to the OP
UCLA will be a good fit if you are a city girl because Oxford might be only 30 min from main campus, but it is in the middle of nowhere.

Sorry, what I meant to say in one of those sentences was “don’t do as well”

^ Oxford excels in leadership. Also you know everybody(720 people) you have close relationship and even if it’s not in the city you can take the “Emory shuttle” 4 days a week(for free!) driving you to Atlanta and Emory college(45 mn) or take your own car.

Oxford it’s more a college transition for students who are not really ready to live with 7000 people or more, and not really ready with enormous classes etc… and the best quality is that you must move out 2 years after for the selective Emory college(#18 in the nation) and you are better prepare for the big jump. well, my D is also undecided she got waitlisted at Georgetown and Emory college … of course she would have preferred going to those too instead but life sometimes don’t give you choices and you need to accept the “unacceptable”… she is a little sad but understand the reality. We will visit Oxford in late April and let you know what we think about it(being a city girl too/5.58gpa/3.84/31 sat/800,680,680 sat in a selective hs/fluent in French and Spanish)

Oxford is way easier than Emory, and tiny. NOT in a city AT.ALL.
Go to UCLA, for sure!

Instead of debating Oxford’s flaws/strengths in relation to Emory College, you should be thinking about the big city, public U with 24,000 students, versus a small Oxford.

^ Oxford lead you to Emory in Atlanta after just 2 years… And Atlanta (like you know) it’s the headquarter of big brands(Coca-cola,Target,Waltmart etc…) where you’ll do your internship. Not bad for a business major! let me add that Emory college ranks #18 in the nation! not bad for a college!

^are you really find friends among that much people(24000!!) they won’t even see you! I experienced big cities when i was younger(Paris and London) and it was very impersonal, everybody don’t care and everybody run!! well, if you like it that way, that for sure Oxford it’s not an option!

I have no idea where you are getting 24,000 people. There are 1200 people in the Emory freshman class and about 18 people in most classes (6,000 undergrads total). Plus, Emory is in Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta (about 15 minutes from down town).

LaVieEnchocolat seems to be obsessively trying to convince herself that Oxford is the right place for her Daughter, despite it being deemed in her terms “unacceptable”. I would sure hate to be her child. Also, Target headquarters are located in Minneapolis.

Amadani, I was saying UCLA’s 24,000 VERSUS THE SMALL OXFORD. So I wasn’t saying anything about Emory’s numbers. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear

this is not my thread…CC is possessed!!!

Jasmac i will hate to have you as my child!!! You are rude and impolite!

^ and target headquarters are in atlanta!!

Target’s Corporate Headquarters are indeed in Minneapolis. [Target : Careers : Corporate Headquarters: Minneapolis](http://sites.target.com/site/en/company/page.jsp?contentId=WCMP04-031463)
