So my D23(rising senior HS) has cobbled 3 P/T jobs for the Summer. One is at the Fitness Center at the HS. One is a at a local Children’s museum. And the last one is at the local Comic Book store in town.
It is the Comic Book store job I am jealous of. Not because I love comics or anything, but how the job is so much like an 80’s/90’s type of job. As you can imagine a comic book store is not a high traffic store. About half the time she works she is alone in the store. The owner gave her keys and she drops the deposit off at the bank at the end of the night. (OK, I know a bunch of you probably are thinking oh that is crazy. That can’t be safe. She is going to get robbed, etc. Let’s face it just being out in public this days is risky enough. It might actually be more risky to go to school. Either way we aren’t worried about it.) I am just jealous because I can remember so many mom & pop type stores from when I was a kid, video rental or record store. Think the two kids this season on Stranger Things working at a Movie Rental store. It isn’t high pressure. People that come in are mostly chill. It isn’t manual labor and hot. And she gets to read comics for part of the day, which she loves. And she has some solid responsibility.
