hey guys! Im 15 and choosing between two companies to work for. Help me decide!

A) Geeksquad - not sure pay per hour yet (ill update tommorow) - 3 hours a day - 6 days a week - technician instore

B) Fast Teks - I was quoted 30 dollars an hour but told it sometime is higher or lower - pay per job so dont always work but according to costumer support usually youll have a job every day (3 hours a day 6 days a week) - on site technician

Id kinda like to work at geeksquad because its well known and i always have a job. But than im cramped in that armpit of an area. With fast teks i get to go to families , bussiness , etc to fix the computer on site. I like both jobs and dont know which i should take !

PS. Ill turn 16 in june so if i worked for fast teks , worked the max ampunt of hours, and always got payed 30 dollars, after tax id make about 29,000 (if i started in oct. 06 and ended a year later)

im A+ cert. and they both agreed to hire me. Its gonna happen. Maybe not that much because of days off but , yup im gonna make over 25000 at 15.

holy crap. if you have prospects of making 30k/yr, you obviously are so smart you don't need our advice. Wow. just wow. i get 6.75/hr as a bag boy and i'm your age. Jeez/

Well that's a lot of time to dedicate to a job. Most people who work 18 hours a day have fewer and longer shifts, including at least one over the weekend/on Friday. I can't imagine coming home from school at 3, clubs until 4, work until 7, and still having time for school and a social life. Well kudos to you if you really can handle that.

I say wait until tomorrow when you know how much you'd make at job A. :)

thanks the one neo. I start school at 7 and leave at 2:45. I am in 4 clubs but none of them require me after school. So i just have to finish my hw from 3-4 and if need more time from 7:30 - 10 pm. My social life is mainly at school and on weekends anyway lol .

well the thing thats annoying me most is the fact that teachers are getting paid 30k after going through college, yet a kid who hasn't even finished high school has the ability to get paid as much, for alot less work, experience and dedication-what a society.

I had to study my ass off my the A+ exam. Im dedicated to computers and have worked so hard on them since i was 6. Thats 11 years of training. I just now am starting to use them for a job.
Teachers dont work to get paid they work to educate. Why are you angry at me? I worked hard enough to teach myself everything on an adult exam, pass the exam, and go for jobs.

Then how do you expect them to be able to make a living? Yeah, the intention of their work is to help others and encourage education, but, in all honesty, at the end of the day, no matter how warm and fuzzy they feel inside, they still need to pay their bills and feed their families.

What i mean is they could go and have a much better job with their knowledge. Alot of HS teachers are very bright and have the oppurtunity to go into a new career if they choose too. Yes they continue to work because of money but they satrt because they want to educate.

You must be einstein b/c I don't see why anyone would want to hire a 15 year old kid at that wage when they can get someone older/more qualified at that same price.

Either that or the people hiring you are rock bottom dumb.

gstein
A+ certified means i took an adult test (comptia.org), passed (proving i have computer technician skills) , and have a lot of experiance. I am more qualified than many of their emplyees. The people at geeksquad for example, out of at least 10 of them, only 2 (managers) had ANY computer certifications. I am just as, and in many cases more qualified than them/

Please stop age bashing and someone help me decide. I guess tommorow ill pst with what geeksquad says about pay.

I wasn't referring to geek squad. I know what A+ certified means, and I also know that hiring a 15 year old at 30.00/hr is outrageous and unheard of. National minimum wage is $5.15/hr. Regardless of how qualified you say you are, I don't see why anyone would pay more than twice their state's minimum wage for a kid to work 15 or more hours for them.

You don't need help deciding what you want, you want a thread where you can lie and/or brag about what you are getting offered.

Not lieing and not bragging. I honestly want to know if anyone has worked for either of these companies. Sorry that you have a problem with a 15 year old thats willing to take the innitiaive to a) study for an exam from a 1000 page book 2) take and pass this exam 3) look for a job 4) apply for a job 5) work long (school time) hours to save for college.

Sure.... If you wanted to hear from former or current employees, don't you think you should try college or parents forum? How many high school kids do you think have worked for either one of those companies, not many? I don't have any problem with kids taking iniative, but I don't like when they lie. You don't just take one exam to be A+ qualified as you've so plainly put it. And 18 hours a week is not even close to long hours, many students work that in just one weekend.

If you do know enough to be A+ certified, you don't need to work to save up for college. It's called scholarships.

Im only 15! I get home at 3 and can work 3 hoursa a day. I than have 3 hours to do homework for my 7 classes (im taking an xtra class) , send emails to my two clubs , maintain my websites, study , etc. To me thats not a lot of time. Sure there are longer hours. But for me im gonna have a lot of work. I am not lieing and this is a High School issue as im not a parent. Felt id find more people here as the majority of PC techs are young. Sorry that you seem to not belive me. I just want opinoons.
