p2p/downloading

Whats Dmouth's policy on this? I know legally the site says don't do it or something, but do most students download movies/music off the net anyways? Is it easy to get caught? I've never used wireless internet before so I'm pretty clueless about it's tracing abilities.

well this year they started cracking down on it. like the RIAA has issued statements about downloading illegally and has given the school directions to warn people caught for downloading and issue lighter fines...i'm not really sure about the specifics. all i know is that the RIAA is behind it more than Dartmouth, and i do know people who have been caught for downloading at dartmouth.

i know a few people who were caught this year and got in trouble for using limewire

trouble implying.. ?

i asked the computer help desk and they said if you are using a large amount of bandwidth they'll check you out ... otherwise you're fine. So if you download a couple of songs every once and awhile you're safe.

Movies and/or tons of songs at once and you might get caught.
