Pace anyone?

Is pace a good safety school?

bump.....bump

Hey,

I just finished two years at Pace b/c I had around a 2.9 HS gpa and wouldn't have been able to get into any other school in NYC. But I just transferred to NYU b/c well, every kid at Pace wants to go to NYU. And no, I'm not exaggerating :)

So I guess it depends on why you would consider Pace a safety school. Will the let you in if you have a pulse? Yes. I know that what I just said is a cliche, but in this case it is true. Just know that Pace is NOT prestigious, it is NOT in a very nice part of NYC, it IS a commuter school (meaning that only a fraction of students live in dorms), and it IS more beneficial to attend a CC and transfer somewhere else if money is a factor.

Please let me be clear, yes there are a handful of kids (mainly kids in Lubin School of Business) who do graduate from Pace with a decent job. I knew a guy who had a 60k/yr job lined up for himself before he even graduated senior year. But this is the exception to the rule. The Lubin School is definitely Pace's only prized possession, and they treat it as such, especially finance and accounting majors.

Again, just remember, (1) that every student at Pace, no matter their major, either was rejected from NYU or couldn't afford to attend NYU.

(2) A student in Lubin will do far better as far as employment prospects are concerned than an english major.

(3) If your goal is to eventually transfer to a more prestigious school, go to Pace for a year if they are giving you an excellent fin. aid. package. But if your paying anywhere near the full cost of tuition, room/board, etc., I would highly suggest that you reassess your options, i.e., community college and such.

Hope this was helpful, I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you might have.

Cheers

rrr369-
What is your major?

Also,
What do you hear about the new[fairly new] MT program?

I actually attended a number of universities and can speak from experience. I think Pace University rates right up there with any of the local Universities in the NYC area. For the record, I attended Pace U. Part-time and worked as a systems engineer. I got a BS Degree in Comp Sci; and I currently work for one of the largest firms on Wall Street reporting to the CTO of the company.

For technology, Pace University has long been considered one of the most "Wired" universities in the country. Additionally, Pace is one of only a few NSA centers of excellence in Computer Information Assurance (<a href="http://www.nsa.gov/releases/relea00078.cfm)%5B/url%5D">http://www.nsa.gov/releases/relea00078.cfm)</a>.

As far as US News goes, Pace is ranked as one of the best third tier national universities (<a href="http://appserv.pace.edu/execute/page.cfm?doc_id=16307)%5B/url%5D">http://appserv.pace.edu/execute/page.cfm?doc_id=16307)</a>. The numbers don't lie. If you look at the numbers, you will see that Pace is clearly one of the top schools in its category

my sister almost went to pace....and my parents would like me 2 go there but hmm...i wanna school preferably small and horsebackriding team is a must!

I wouldn't say Pace was a big school. I attended the campus in NYC. There is a small Midtown campus (part of one building), but most NYC classes take place at 1 Pace plaza. You'll definitly get to know everyone there.

I took a class on a Saturday at the Pleasentville campus. There are horses there, and just doing a quick lookup I found this link <a href="http://appserv.pace.edu/execute/page.cfm?doc_id=1624%5B/url%5D">http://appserv.pace.edu/execute/page.cfm?doc_id=1624</a> .

If you attended classes in pleasentvill, the campus LOOKS very nice, but I'm not sure what kind of night life goes on up there. I can vouch that the Downtown NY campus has an excellent night life.

Hope this helps

I go to Pace's NYC campus at one pace plz. It's not big at all, everything is in one building...very convenient

I'm planning on transferring there Spring 06 or Fall 06. Does anybody know how generous they are about transfer aid or scholarships?

In my opinion, they're not very generous...though they claim to be.

"Transfer: minimum 3.25 transfer GPA and at least 24 transfer credits. Awards currently range from $3,500 to $7,000. Length of the award is for a maximum of 3 years or 6 semesters not including Summer sessions."

I think tution for the new year is around 24,000 (not including room and board).

They also have what they call "Endowed Scholarships" which I have yet to apply for, but the deadline isn't until June.

for more information on financial aid at Pace.
