PaCE program?

Until they transition to campus, PaCE students are UF Online students so they can take less than 12 credits. However keep in mind that some financial aid requires students to take a specific load each semester so be sure to check if that applies to your situation.

Hi All. When you are in UF Online (i.e. when you are a PaCE student) you do not have to take a full (>12) credit load. How many credits you take is up to you. However, keep in mind that taking less credits could adversely affect any aid/scholarships you may have.

@UFOnline‌ When my mom asked if I only had, say the “15 credits” left to take, I could take 9 one semester and 6 another,Sandy in admissions told my mom that: “The PaCE Program requires that the first 60 credit hours be completed online (they can have up to 45 credit hours from AP, IB, AICE and dual Enrollment). They have to complete a minimum of two semesters and 15 credit hours before they can transition to on-campus. Taking less than 12 credit hours in a semester, the student would not be considered a full-time student and could negatively impact insurances.” By insurances does she mean scholarships? Would that affect prepaid or Brightfutures? Then when she said no one told us she had to be FT, she also added “Please remember the requirement is 60 credit hours AND the prerequisite courses for their chosen major before transitioning.” Which we had never heard we had to do the prerequisite course either, just 15 hours. As I stated earlier, I should have most of the prerequisites for 4 semesters of my major coming in thru AP/IB classes, but how many do I actually need. All of the prerequisites for 2 semesters(like end of freshman year) or 4 semester worth (like end sophomore year), like a transfer student?

My daughter has decided to take advantage of this opportunity. She will live in Gainesville off campus and will take advantage of everything offered to her as a UF student. She will buy a meal plan, join a sorority, use the library, etc. etc…We fully expect that she will have the full Freshman experience. My question to UF Online is, would it be possible to have PACE students living near campus be included in a regular campus orientation in addition to their online orientation?

This has to do with health insurance. Before the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), you had to be a full time student to stay on your parent’s health plan. That’s now changed and young adults can stay on the parents plan until they turn 26 years old. See the following link.

Have you parents check your health insurance. If/when you do move to Gainesville, you will need to check to see if your plans coverage is available in Gainesville.

Bright Futures does require that you enrolled for at least six semester credit hours.

@floridamom61 UF Online students are not encouraged to come to Gainesville (yes, I know, a lot of PaCE students are coming to Gainesville). At this time there are no plans for a “campus” orientation. Sorry.

@Grad2019 you need 60 credits to transition to campus and at least 15 of those 60 are required to be in UF Online. To transition to campus, you must have the requirements for the major you are interested in. If your major is in CLAS, the prereqs are listed here for each major:https://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campus-enrollment/

For other majors, please contact the College of the major that you are interested in to determine which classes you need. If you take <12 hours, as noted by @Gator88NE, you may have problems with your aid/scholarships. Those questions should go to: http://www.sfa.ufl.edu

@UFOnline, will the credits earn as Transient Student count towards the 15 online credits?

HI @biofresman97 Not sure what you mean by “transient student”. If you mean credits taken elsewhere while you are in UF Online, then no, those will not count towards the 15. They would count towards the 60. Remember, that while enrolled in UF Online you will need the permission of your UF advisor to take classes outside of UF.

You will need 15 credits in UF Online to transition to campus.

@UFOnline Thank you so much for being patient with all of our questions, I did not think we had to be FT but the information we received yesterday seemed to point there. We have no issues with insurance or prepaid so I am ok to do less than FT if I want (but probably won’t). Otherwise, I think I finally have all the info I need regarding, housing food, clubs, sororities, campus experience and PaCE credit requirements, but the last bit of information I need would be what/how many prerequisites would be needed for my major to transition to residency. I see now, that the CLAS has a very extensive page devoted to PaCE students with prerecs listed for each major(we did not notice it before as that is not my college) and it looks like most only require no more than 4 prerec classes to be taken, so that makes me feel much better. So any idea when the CLC will have the same type of information listed? That will help me make my final choice.

My apologies if this has already been asked. My son wants to major in psychology. I see that it is offered as a major in uf online but not PaCE. I guess I still don’t understand how that would work. He wants to be rid of online classes as soon as possible. In other words there is no way he would complete the major online. If he is taking the lower level psych classes through uf online how does this all tie in with PaCE and declaring psych as his major when he transitions to the residential campus?

I’d be interested to know if anybody is from Pinellas County? Thanks.

Hernando

@surfer4 Psychology is not a PaCE major so your son will need to pick a different major if he wants to accept the PaCE offer. He could, if he wanted, stay in UF Online to complete the PSY major, however, that does not seem to be what he wants to do. He will not be allowed to transition to campus in PSY.

There are two options:

  1. He can do a similar major in PaCE (Soc is likely the closest)
  2. He can submit a transfer application once he has his AA (this would be similar to if he went to a different Florida College and then transferred to UF). Keep in mind that PSY is one of the hardest majors to transfer into at UF.

The third option you may be thinking about, transitioning to campus in a PaCE major and then changing his major to PSY once on campus would likely NOT be approved by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I would suggest contacting a CLAS advisor to discuss his options.

The second chat session regarding the PaCE program is tonight, Wednesday, February 25, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. This will include a room to answer questions about pre-health. See https://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campus-enrollment/ for login details.

An academic adviser in the College of Journalism and Communications indicated my son could take courses this summer at a State College that would count toward the 60 needed for transition to campus. I note in answers to frequently asked questions the admissions department indicates all high school and college transcripts need to be submitted by July 31st. Considering the summer B term ends after July 31st, do you foresee any problem with those credits transferring and being counted toward the 60?

@GatorDad2015 Yep, state college credits can be used towards the 60 prior to starting at UF. As far as if they would count towards the degree requirements and/or when they need to be submitted by, please contact the advisor in the College. They will provide all the details.

If my daughter accepts this PaCE program she would like to take Summer classes at the local State College, we are meeting with the state college adviser next Wednesday. She will also stay at home for the first year and visit friends at different colleges on the weekends. Getting into her Major at the college that offers the best program in her major is more important than the “College experience”. We live in the Orlando area and it would be nice to have any local PaCE students staying at home to have a way to connect. I know a few of the students have connected on Facebook groups (UF PaCE Class of 2019 & PaCE class of 2019 at the University of Florida ). It would be nice to see more PaCE students join the group. This is new to all of us and we are learning as we go. (:

@NSN2015 I’m from the Orlando area too and I’m considering doing the same thing. @UFOnline‌ If I take courses at my local state college during the summer, I do get credit correct? And as well, is Dietetics a major offered through PACE?

@mgcsoccer97 If you are interested in taking courses prior to coming to UF and want to know how they will count towards your degree please contact the UF College you are interested in.

All majors in UF PaCE are listed here: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/pacemajors.html
