My niece is considering Pace and was surprised we hadn't heard of it. Anybody familiar? She's not the best student (I don't know specifics)---She wants to be in/near the city and is interested in communications/radio-TV/broadcasting. I'd appreciate feedback and suggestions of other schools that might meet her needs. Thanks.

Yeah, I have definately heard of Pace (well I live in NY so that is probably the reason…) but it is a good school (i know someone who attends) and is somewhat in/near NYC. I would look at additional schools on the same level in New York, if she wants to be there such as maybe the CUNY schools? (similar to SUNY but stands for the City University in New York). There is also Boston with lots and lots of universities, and Philly (maybe Drexel?) with many as well if she wants to check out some there.

My brother attends Pace University in Manhattan, and loves it.

I’m looking into Pace University also. It’s just the money that could hold me back! I love manhattan.

Pace is well known in Manhattan & Westchester. It has several campuses, which may offer some advantage and flexibilty in scheduling. Admissions are not so highly selective as some other schools of comparable cost.

I’ve been looking into taking some classes for myself, and one thing I’ve noticed is Pace is very expensive, at least per credit which is what I’ve been looking at. A number of area colleges that are at least as well reputed seeemed to be actually less costly: eg
Fordham, Manhattan College, Iona, Manhattanville. St. Johns might be checked as well.
SUNYs (eg Purchase) are quite significantly less costly than any of these, and also do not have a lower reputation. CUNYs as well: Lehman, Queens, Brooklyn, City College, the community colleges (which are yet more affordable). Don’t know about relative admissions ease, which might be a factor.

If it were me I would check whichever of these 15 or so schools are reasonably easy for her to get to, to see if they have comparable, or maybe better offerings (eg more courses) in areas of interest.

I’m assuming that she wishes to confine to NYC & Westchester, since that’s where Pace operates.

In Manhattan I was looking into courses offered at Hunter College, Touro and Marymount Manhattan. Not sure about reputations. There is also Baruch. Again, I’d check into all of them I could easily get to, there really aren’t that many.

I took a course at Westchester Community College recently, it was really quite good. And it cost over $800 per credit less than at Pace. That can add up to a lot of money. There are community colleges in each borough of NYC.
