I know both Carleton and Harvey Mudd have active parent maillists and they're a great resource. There are common questions each year, just like CC. Questions from new parents about what to pack, health insurance, best cell phone company for the area, etc. Also lots of questions about off-campus studies, when and where to make reservations for parents weekend and graduation, etc. Suggestions for ordering birthday treats for students, ride-sharing to and from the airport.

What other schools have a parent listserve? Is it active?

Trinity University in San Antonio had one 3 years ago when my S was looking at colleges. That was one of many things that impressed me about that school. It was like a mini-CC Parents Forum for Trinity parents :)!

While there isn’t an actual listserve that I know of, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo does have a very active Parent Program. All of the questions above are answered by the parents whose names are on the list. I’m not sure if there’s an actual forum where everyone can chat or share information. That would be helpful if parents can bounce ideas and questions off one another. These parents were at Open House up on the stage answering questions at the parents’ get-together. Very helpful!

Wesleyan- very active and excellently moderated listserve. Very informative, useful, and social tool for parents of students away at college.
For example-
some common threads/questions- where to get a birthday cake to be delivered, a reliable auto/bike mechanic, dentist, doctor, restaurant, hotel, nice bike route, transportation.
