Hey guys, my dad got approved for a $2000 Parent PLUS Loan, however we applied on my studentloans.gov account and cannot sign the note with his digital signature and we had to put my name in the signature box. After submitting the note we made him a studentloans.gov account (after realizing we could do that) and was able to sign the note in his name, but there are no loans to show on his account which is worrying me, as if he never applied in the first place. Sorry if this is confusing, I tried wording the situation the best I could. Should we have applied for the loan on his account?

When I applied for a Parent Plus loan, I signed in to the website with my name (parent), my info and my PIN. I signed the master promissary note using my PIN as well. The parent is the borrower and should be applying and signing with their own information and PIN.

At this point, I would suggest you call for help. I’m not sure if the loan can be transferred over or if he should reapply.

Your school will reject the first application you submitted, since it is in your name. Students are not able to be the borrower for the PLUS loan. This is a very common mistake, and I am sure your school comes across this situation occasionally. You will need to have your dad fill out the application again, but it is imperative that he logs in with his SSN and FAFSA PIN. Your school will then be able to disburse the loan funds once his application is on file. Make sure after he has completed it, that you confirm with your school they have it on file and that the promissory note links with the correct application.
