Parent Statements from Parents with English as their Second Language

Obligatory not a parent here

So, parent statements. How significant are they? My parents have English as their second language and may find difficulty writing these up. Does anyone have anu tips for them or know how I can make it easier for them?

yeah no, my mum wrote them in chinese then I tried my best to translate them lmao

@Mercurrii I see. I guess I’ll just try my best to translate things from Korean then

They aren’t judging your parents for admission just want to make sure they aren’t crazy as in - “my child is only allowed to get A+’s and must attend Harvard.”

@one1ofeach That’s a relief. So it’s alright that it may not be as strong or unique as other statements may be?

Omg. Yes. It’s fine! They are admitting you, they care about your statements. The parent statements are just to make sure everyone is on board. If you are worried you can add a little note *written in Korean by parent, translated into English by student. Or you can email the AO separately and let them know your parents are writing the statement in Korean and you are translating it into English. I always think that meaningful communication like that shows your commitment and dedication to the school.
