Plebe parent weekend in August seems ages away...BUT when I called around to make reservations today I am finding several hotels, etc are ALREADY full. Just want to encourage you to think ahead and start calling if you havent already done so.

And to warn you that the places within easy driving distance (5 miles or less) and those within walking distance (because the traffic is horrid that weekend) are costly. The best I found was $199.00 a night. Several have multiple night minimums..... None of the hotels with the historic district have a pool. My daughter says all she cares about is food, family and a bed!

If anyone wants information let me know, I am fairly familiar with Annapolis and have done business with most accomodations in the area. Would be glad to provide comments and/or contact #.

I would appreciate any more input. I have reservations at both Loews and Ocallaghans. Which is better? Also, is it worth the extra $$ to stay at the Marriotts?

Well, if my experience is indicative, you'll spend little time in the room anyway, so the extra $$$ my not be worth it.

What I don't remember for the life of me is where the Marriott is. If it's downtown, the ability to walk to USNA may be well worth the investment.

LOL!

Yep! Some things NEVER change! :D

I don't think they let us sleep off the Yard, though. Hmmmm....

I stayed at O'Callaghans during my CVW. It was really nice...and expensive. It was about a 20 minute walk to the Yard, and located fairly close to some good eating establishments. I enjoyed my short stay there.

The class of 2008 began the awesome tradition of PPW overnights when the water went out on the yard. Fearing that the Bancroft Hall toilet situation would quickly deteriorate to the level that Alumni Hall toilet facilities rapidly attained during the parent presentation (!) the Sup kindly released the plebes into the custody or their parents (or whoever else would take them in!) for the Saturday night. The rest is history. :)

And who was the future SEAL in the Class of 2008 that secured the water to the Yard? :D

Do I even want to know?

Come to think of it, have they finished repairing the flood damage from that hurricane that went through a few years back?

When I was there last summer all the labs that were underwater were working fine. You would have never guessed they were full of water. But yeah, no noticable damage.

Ha! The plebe mom's took the credit!:) No, we were all civilized, so it didn't get too bad. We figured it out pretty quickly.

It was funny, we took our plebe straight to the hotel, fed him, tucked him in, and watched him sleep. Then it was time to go back for the 2245 muster. When we arrived at Bancroft at 2215 the yard was empty, and my husband and I were terrified that he had gotten the time wrong or something. Seriously, there was no one on red beach. We approached the door and there was an unassuming sheet of white paper upon which was written:

ATTENTION:

4C REGIMENT

LIBERTY IS NOW
EXTENDED UNTIL
1800 SUNDAY
15AUG04 FOR ALL CLASSES

THIS MEANS YOU!

I don't know if I have ever seen our son so happy/relieved! He even did the happy dance. :) Pretty happy parents, too!

I love Loews, Thats where I have reservations. Dont know OCallaghans well, but is a nice place and within walking distance. If you stay at either, let me know. Perhaps we can all meet up.

My daughter is planning on sleeping WHATEVER time she is allowed away from the yard.....

I think Loews is the choice. I really don't care about the water part but if the distance is a huge difference. I want the nicest place for him to relax at/play videos and lay down. Thats all he wanted to do during his leisure time anyway.
PS 24 was awesome last night.........

I have stayed in all three hotels. The Marriott was wonderful as we had a room on the end overlooking the harbor with a beautiful sunrise view of the Yard. If you are fortunate enough to have some Marriott points it will be well worth it. I have also stayed in both O'Callaghans and the Loews. I actually preferred the Loews. It was smaller and quite nice. It is only slightly further away from the Yard than Loews. The hotel shuttle will be happy to drop you off at Gate 1. Take your best deal. You really can't go wrong.
