parents and prospective parents of class of 2018

are any of u having better luck getting ur kid to do the placement tests? At least it’s on my kid’s to do list… kind of wich it was still part of orientation rather then they have to get it done before they can even sign up for orientation.

My D did them a couple weeks ago. They were a bit of a pain, but she did them all in one day I think.

DS finished them after much nagging from me. Now trying to figure out which orientation dates to sign up for.

glad yours got them in!!! Mine may be doing the Aug 21 orientation the way things are going. sigh… Well, at least he has a room!

My D is definitely doing the Aug. 21 orientation. She’s coming from California, so this saves a round-trip ticket earlier in the summer. The office of orientation promised that they hold spots in classes or open new ones as needed to accommodate everyone. I hope that’s the case!

My D took the placement tests a couple of weeks ago, too. She wanted to get them out of the way, so she could register for orientation. She is attending the first orientation - we are in Maryland so it’s 2.5 or less hours. That is good information about holding spots and/or adding classes as needed - my D’s roommate can’t attend until the last one because of her summer job. Did your kids register for an Honors orientation? My D is in Honors, but not living in 1300, and a nursing major. She said she was told to register for an Honors orientation, and then she would also be doing the nursing orientation that day.

Is anyone else’s student a nursing major? We are just looking through all the screenings/vaccination boosters/CPR, etc. requirements to be finished by the beginning of July - it looks like a lot!

My D is in Honors as well, but she’s a Music major - no vaccinations needed for that as far as we know! She will be living in 1300. I think somehow they work Honors and the students’ major into each orientation session.

mine is honors and at some point, yes, he will attend an honors orientation. he is not in nursing either. windows, where will your daughter be living? Gertrude, I wanted my kid go to Cali but he wanted to stay closer to home. He wants to go into screen acting so I thought going to school in LA would help with that.

Looks like Tyler has their own orientation days. DS said he doesn’t care which one he goes to so he’ll probably go to one of the earlier ones. We’re a 6 hr drive from Philly so we’ll drive down the day before and stay with family.

She and her roommate chose Hardwick. We toured 1300, too - it is really nice. It was a tough decision but they talked and reasoned it out together.

D’s Dr. recommended getting the meningococcal vaccine. She said that a lot of colleges are requiring it now. On my d’s vaccine record it is called Menactra. I don’t know if Temple requires it - I just had her get it.

She has only 8 days of school left, and prom is tonight … this year has flown by!

good point. we should see what vaccinnes are recomended too. My kid’s prom is tomorrow. Hardwick is closer to the hospital and I;m guessing a lot of her classes will be there so Hardwick makes sense. mine still has about 20 days of school. ugh…

so kid has all placement tests done but writing. and for that, he did rough drafts on 3/4 of the essays on one the subject sheets so he should to the last placement test by next week. thank God. and i did not get any grey hairs waiting for him do these tests  think his HS finals are done today and he graduates next Friday. Philadelphia, look out. Our kids are coming ;)

@ctl987 - it’s starting to get real. I bought D a one-way plane ticket for Fall…

@ctl987 - he is almost done! That’s a lot of work, along with finals. @GertrudeMcFuzz - purchasing a one-way ticket is certainly a defining moment! It’s starting to get real - for sure.

We had her graduation party last Saturday and my daughter graduated on Wed night! Wow - to watch her, and all these kids she’s gone to school with since kindergarten, walk past us on their way to the stage was amazing and bittersweet. I had to re-apply mascara :). Then stayed up all night, volunteering at the Safe and Sane celebration. I’m tired!

It is getting real. The one way ticket
Yikes :/. I prob better pass on mascara at graduation unless I want to look like a zombie by the end of it

I bought some waterproof mascara yesterday. Graduation is one week from today.

Does every school at Temple require different vaccinations? Also where is it posted? My son is going to Tyler

Hi, @Mdwestma - I think most universities are now requiring the meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine to protect against meningitis. That is probably the only new vaccine your son will need, if he hasn’t already gotten it… Temple’s Health Center page (https.//shs-web.temple.edu/osh/ ) asks for confirmation that a student has gotten their meningococcal vaccine, so it looks like Temple is requiring it, too. My daughter found this page yesterday but could not access her account yesterday anyway - she called this morning and Temple was just beginning to give access to new students.

The nursing major requires titres, too, because of clinicals. Those are the other blood tests that I was talking about before.

If we find out anything else about vaccines, I’ll post it here.

@mom4cw - smart purchase, that waterproof mascara!

Thank you,WindowMomto2
