Parents at Admitted Student day(s)

I am driving my D out to Admitted Student days and as it is pretty far from anywhere else will stick around while she does her thing and spends the night in a dorm. Does anyone know if, and what, panels etc. there will be for parents or do we just kick back? I will have a ton of work to do with me, but am happy to have a reason (or reasons) not to do it, if there are things for us to do.

She is a recruited athlete-- does anyone know if the parents of the new athletes get together to find out more about the programs etc.?

I looked on the website but the Previews info doesn’t include parent information. As I recall, there was a continental breakfast in the Faculty House, with tours leaving from there. They may change things from year to year, but I remember attending a talk on career planning and life after Williams. There is definitely a meeting for parents of athletes during drop-off in the fall, I’m not sure about during Previews. You definitely won’t be the only parent hanging back and letting their kid do their thing.

We sent our daughter to Previews alone but I have visited her at other random times and there are some nice options for a wandering parent. Bring your work to the Tunnel City Coffee shop at the end of Spring St - great atmosphere in there and there was a nice mix of students, profs, and some loyal alums and locals. You can also contact the Williams Outing Club and they can tell you where you go for a hike - I went to Pine Cobble and it was gorgeous (about two hours to the top and back). There is of course the Clark and the school’s own museum is great as well. The school will also give you a pass to the gym/pool if that interests you. I think it is also possible to sit in on a class - admissions could help you there. I also had fun just wandering around (it’s a small school but I did manage to get a little lost, it was pathetic) and buying small purple cow stuff at the shop. Have fun!

I sent my daughter to Previews by herself, but she did mention hikes that included parents. My favorite things to do in Williamstown is: 1) go to the funky images theater on Spring Street for some sort of artsy movie 2) go to the art museums on and off campus and 3) hike at Mt Greylock. Mt. Greylock has a plethora of trails you can explore and it’s a really beautiful place. 4) hang out at Tunnel City coffee shop. It’s a great place to do work in and D’s favorite study spot.

LOL Berumpt, getting lost in Williamstown does take some creativity!

We were told that all activities except classes and the evening social events were open to parents. We are planning to stick around the whole time. The detailed schedule is posted on the website and there is a reception for parents on Monday night from 6-7 and a coffee hour on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. at the Clark, followed by a tour.
