Hey everyone,

Are you going to bring your parents to the Previews? I really have no idea if it's a good idea or not.

Hey everyone,

Are you going to bring your parents to the Previews? I really have no idea if it's a good idea or not.

I probably won’t. I live like an hour away from Williams so either I’ll drive myself down or they’ll drop me off and pick me up. I just feel like I won’t be like attached to them there with me. I might bring them as long as they don’t like, follow me around all the time and stuff. I just feel like I’d get the chance to explore more by myself if they weren’t there.

nope. can’t afford the flight fees. And I like the increased freedom. :)

I’m a parent and will be attending but only because we’re a five to six hour drive and it doesn’t make sense for me to drive all the way back and return the next day. I’ll let my daughter ditch me on arrival and then go to the parent oriented programming. If you’re facing similar logistical issues I don’t think it’s unusual to have parents there, but clearly they don’t attend classes or go to the dorms with you.

My son’s driving over with a friend. I’ve been there a couple of times already and he got in ED, so there’s no decision to be made, so Previews for him is an opportunity to meet people and start getting used to the place. He doesn’t need me for that.

Great Idea. My parents came with me. The only time I saw them was when we all arrived, during a tour with a senior on campus and at the very end of our weekend upon departure where we had lunch and I freshened up.

Have them stay at the Willaims Inn. They certainly will know what to do with their time on campus.

The worst cases I have seen is when elderly Asian parents and or grandparents come and the student must walk at their pace and follow ever so slowly without exchanging glances at the students and without a smile. Now do not interpret this as irreverent because it was only an observation from those whom I have observed when I came to campus.

I bet if they were apart from them, they would have had a much different tenor to their face, their walk, their ultimate smile and thus their overall experience.

But if you must be with your parents at all times, then try to interface as much as possible with your tour guides and hosts.

By the way, my parents did attend a class to get a feel for the school academic classroom. Probably more out of a nostalgia in remembrance for their past lives.

Anyway, do not fret it, just take it and have fun.
