I know this has been discussed before (last year) but I just wanted to be clear. What is the role of parents at the admitted students' weekend? I'm trying to decide whether I should encourage mine to go or not. Do they stay in a hotel off campus? What about the information sessionsdo they go as well? How common is it for parents to go?

Any insight you guys have (especially current students) would be very much appreciated!

Well, I’m a parent and I attended with S last year. Most of the students were there with parents. I went to some information sessions and model classes, looked through the museum, toured a dorm, and ate lunch in one of the dining halls. S and I did some things together and some separately. There was a reception for parents after the students went off with their hosts. Parents were not allowed to visit actual classes with their kids and, of course, had to spend the night somewhere else. I was glad I went.

Thank you so much! That helps tremendously.

my H went also last year, as he had not been on our earlier visit. It really helped him to get to know the school. He enjoyed a history of Chicago tour, and wish he had known about the tour of the Argonne Lab (humanities D did not share this info with him)

Lodging was on his own when she did the overnight in the dorm, he stayed in the IHouse, where D and I had also stayed on an earlier visit.

He enjoyed meeting other parents at the reception, this is a guy who doesn’t usually socialize much.
