This forum is obviously for parents of children who are very involved in their kids' getting into college, but is there one for adults going back to school, who have children? I have a ten-year career and bachelor's behind me, love my life, and I'm going back to college with two small children. Is there a place for people like me here? Returning students? Anything?

To all of you parents, kudos to you. My mom was very encouraging in a vague way and I paid my own way through college and it was great. I can't imagine where I'd be if she'd have been so involved. UN Secretary General? Possibly... anyway, good luck to all of you and your big little ones, and thanks for any tips you may have.

My father went to college after he retired from the military after 20 years of service. He was married with kids ranging from 7th—10th grade. We lived in married students’ housing and he had part time jobs, GI bill, and retired pay to pay for tuition and living expenses. It can be done!

My mom went back to school to get her masters in special education when the youngest of us started kindergarten at age 5. She had kids ranging from HS to him as the youngest. She got straight As & therefore left us a tough act to follow, especially for my older sister who started college immediately after mom got her masters. :)

Sorry, am not aware of another site like this for returning students. You may wish to ask you local community college or state U if they have that info. The good news is that these days, there are MANY on-line course offerings just for students like you who are older and have other obligations. My niece is getting a masters in special ed & only physically reports to class once/week–all of her other work is done on-line and soon in the school she will be placed at. Both CCs and Us are offering more & more on-line. :)

There are grad school forums here-- click on ‘discussion home’ at left and you see all the various forums. That might be a good place to begin. And good luck!!

There is a sub-forum for non-traditional students that is hidden away inside the section titled “Specialty College Admissions Topics” in the College Admissions Forum. You might find more ideas there.

Thanks everyone. I know it can be done but I’m looking to connect with people who are doing it now. Happymomof1 that looks just like what I’m looking for. Thanks!
