Hey everyone I know I'm a kid but I wondering how long it takes parents to do the financial aid stuff. I haven't started pestering my parents about it yet, so I was wondering whether or not I've waited to long. Thanks!

Ifax- I’ll answer this one. The first year, it can take quite a while, as you have to gather together lots of different documents. It helps to have a rough draft of your taxes done. I’ve learned to keep up to date records during the year on medical and educational expenses, and to save it all in one place for the following year. The good news is that filling out the PFS is great practice for filling out the college version, the CSS Profile. Hope that helps!

Basically, your parents need all the documents needed for their tax return. If all docs are handy, the form itself is not that complicated. It may just take them an hour or so to complete it.

There are actually, a few more pieces of information that are needed. Current house value, medical expenses, (even if you don’t itemize) educational expenses (music lessons, sports camps, other childrens tuition etc), car make and model, how much did you spend on a vacation, how much did you pay in private club dues…these are just a couple of things I can remember off the top of my head Not trying to be a know it all, but I have this somewhat down to an art after at least seven years of filling it out! It does change a little from year to year- haven’t looked at this year’s yet.

Thanks for the responses! I got my dad to start filling it out last night.
