[If there is another discussion out there somewhere, I cannot find it. So, either please tell me where it is, or join me here!]
My daughter was invited to audition for the BFA Acting program. We went to Ann Arbor and had a wonderful trip! She recently received a phone call and an email from the department telling her she’d been accepted into the BFA program, but now we’re waiting for official word from the university.
Going crazy over here with all the waiting!!!
If she is ultimately accepted, it would be nice to have other parents to chat with about all the logistical stuff that will inevitable come next.
I’m a grad student at Michigan and am happy to try and answer any questions anyone may have (though I’m not sure how helpful I’ll be… but it’s an offer!)
Yes, congratulations to your daughter @pazzesca !!
I’m truly happy for you, but also concerned for my own daughter. She also auditioned on campus the same day and hasn’t heard anything yet. Her school musical is this weekend, so I’m hoping that if no news yet means bad news, that the bad news is at least delayed until Monday at this point!
(But all digits crossed in the slim hope that they just haven’t yet notified everyone that they are going to accept to BFA Acting!)
@LuvsLabs … We haven’t actually heard anything official, and I haven’t heard of anyone auditioning for acting that day hearing anything yet either, good news nor bad.
My daughter emailed the SMTD after her audition to ask a question about other programs. They emailed her back and gave her positive feedback about her audition. She emailed them again. They then emailed her and told her that they’d accepted her to the BFA but now the university had to go over her academics. So, my daughter kind of initiated the conversation… and they told her she was in… but we haven’t heard from the university!!!
So, my point is… I don’t think ANYONE has heard yet… So it’s not time to worry yet! [telling myself the same thing]
How did your daughter feel about her audition? I heard that the movement workshop was actually secretly part of the audition too. I wonder if we saw you that day…
@pazzesca Thanks for responding. My D would jump for joy and commit with UMich the same day if they accepted her, so I’m on pins and needles with nervous anticipation.
She said she assumed the entire process was all a part of the audition, and although she didn’t mention anything specific, she said the audition and monologue portion were a lot of fun for her and she thought she did well and felt good about it.
There’s a lot of talented competition for very few slots - aren’t they filling 8 spots in the Acting BFA class?
@LuvLABS My understanding is that they invite 14 girls and 14 boys, and then when all is said and done, they end up with a class of about 20 total. I’m really hoping to hear tomorrow. I can’t take much more of this.
