That sounds wonderful, Consolation. Congrats to your S.

We still have over 2 weeks until graduation, but almost everything is set. S needs to pick up tickets to his school’s celebration and his cap & gown. We have tickets to the all-school ceremony, reservations for his department’s breakfast, dinner reservations, and hotel. I’m not exactly sure what I’m wearing, but I’ve still got 2 weeks to figure that out. It should be an exciting, if exhausting, weekend.

S2’s graduation is this weekend. We’re leaving tomorrow afternoon. I still don’t know what I’m wearing but won’t stress over it. It’s a big state u. Won’t see anybody I know other than S2 and DH. S1 can’t come. He’s out of state for work. The one grandparent left is 81 years old, can’t come.

One service is in the football stadium and the other is in the basketball arena. If I gotta climb stairs and sit on bleachers,I’m going for comfort. Weather forecast call for temps. around 90 degrees:eek:

Congratulations to WOWM’s D and Consolation’s S.

TX5, Packmom and anyone else with graduations this weekend: Have a wonderful time and enjoy the moment. We’re on deck for next weekend. We had planned to stay at a downtown hotel, but a new Homewood Suites just opened on campus and we were able to get a reservation. That should simplify things a bit.

My D’s graduation will be on the 20th, and then we will take her “winter gear” up the road 100 miles to storage where she will be starting medschool in August. No need to bring it all down South just to ship it back up. The good news is that she feels she made a good decision for her medschool, the bad news is that it is 1200 miles from me. Also, good news that there is skiing there and a river to row, bad news is that she will want me to buy her ski gear.

you must be proud WOWM! and congrats to Consolation’s s, a great opportunity.

my s is lining up an apartment close to his new job, starts a week after graduation so lots of careful planning. very grateful for such a wonderful opportunity.

Adding my happy congratulations to consolation, WOWM, GA2012mom, and myturnnow.

My S’s graduation is next week, but these past two weeks have been intense and stressful. The worst of cunch-time juggling final essays, thesis project, and his new job which already started (!) is all but over now, so I can see relief heading his way… hope he can too.

For my part, I’m excited to see my oldest starting a new phase of his life with such high expectations and a wonderful creative career already started.

Wishing everyone smooth sailing and sunny weather.

Congrats to the soon to be grads and parents on wonderful accomplishments. For those with injuries, wishing they are almost on the mend and ready to go!!!

Best to the families who are celebrating in the upcoming few weeks. Good health and happy options to all. It is exciting to see it all come together and the sentimentality meter is working over-time here. So much gratitude!
It is great to hear the new grads plans. Quite an accomplished and interesting group.

Holding cyber hands with all my fellow 2012 grad parents here!!

My DS celebrates his 22nd birthday this week and takes the last of his finals. Graduation is the following week and then a move to nearby house, with the new job starting in a few weeks! He is off crutches and hopefully doing ok.

jym, that’s wonderful. Glad to hear he’s off the crutches. Who would want to start their first real job on crutches! H broke his foot right before his first job, and started with one of those boot-like things. He felt like a dork. :)

Glad to hear your S is off crutches, jym626. Tell him no more sports til after graduation.

Best to everyone celebrating graduations this weekend. Two weeks to go for us, but I’m sure it’ll fly by. Since my S really graduated in Dec and has been working full-time since, he’s finding all the hoopla a bit superfluous, but he deserves to hear his name called, cross the stage, and be officially recognized and congratulated.

Back from graduation. It was a great day.
So proud of S2. He was never a high flyer. Made less than 1.0 his first semester and we wondered if he could make it through college. He kept plugging away raising his gpa little by little each semester.
This semester he made a 3.75…Dean’s List… graduated in four years and starts an internship next week… S2 goes out with a bang…couldn’t be happier.

Thanks y’all. I’m still pinching myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. This really happened.
I kept telling him it’s not how you start. It’s how you finish. Hopefully potential future employers will notice the upward trend each sem. on his transcript and not dwell on the four…(yes, four) F’s in the first sem.
S2 is our youngest so we are totally finished with college…big hooray!

Hope everyone has wonderful graduation weekends ahead.

We just got back, too. There were over 700 graduates and the ceremony took 3 hours. I was surprised to see that half of the grads and audience left the arena after their names were called. We stayed until the very end. The speaker made the comment that only40% of the students who start college will actually earn a degree. Interesting! They recognized the ten 4.0 GPA students, of which only 6 attended the ceremony.

More good news! S decided to take the position in Europe for next year, but his plans for the summer were, shall we say, vague. He was just offered a summer teaching assistantship at a language program in the same country. If I’m not mistaken, that leaves him with about a month between the two, during which he can visit his cousins in the UK and Ireland. So he went from no plans at all to what sounds like a really great year.

Now I can start worrying about what he’ll do after that! :D
