Thanks for the info EmmyBet re New Paltz. D is more concerned about making it north and home instead of south and to the city. She has told us that she would be perfectly happy living at home and commuting to college. If I was better at emoticons I would insert one screaming ACKKK! with sound effects if possible. (Actually it is kind of nice that she would be willing but no, just no, if at all possible. Less crazy making for all of us.)
Thanks scoutsmom for the offer! There is a possibility that she could go there (even with less than usual gift aid) as then she would just commute ( But see above!!!)
Speaking of which if anyone is heading out this way to visit RPI, Albany or points south- I am available for advice, coffee etc. (And if your S or D ends up going out this way- I am a great emergency contact.)

OWM congrats, it must have been so exciting for you to be there and see it happen

Two years ago, (before I found CC) I sent DS to UCSD for a summer program thinking it would be a good & reasonable option for an OOS B+ student - ha ha. I think when I first looked it was around $35K for OOS. That was some $$ I didn’t need to spend, although he enjoyed it. I feel bad for all you CA’s that can’t get in- geesh. At our state flagship I don’t think S could have gotten into their honors college it’s so competitive now, not that he considered it.

I have to stay out of CVS as well to avoid the Dove eggs, terribly addicting. I have a new pressure here. DD sent her dog out for Christmas since she was going to China prior to coming home. He is still here since she moved from LA to SF and is still looking for an apartment. Well the poor little dog has gained 10 lbs(25% of his body weight). I thought he was looking a little plump, but omg. Now apart from being fat there is a whole host of issues. The airlines have weight restrictions and he was close to the limit with his crate when he flew out. And the apartments she is looking at have weight limits as well that he is now over. So now I feel guilty that not only did I gain weight this winter, I let the dog get fat and he might not be able to get home. My D is an elite athlete and exercised the dog a lot, running, dog beach etc. I’ve cut back on his food but it is not making a dent. I know I’m not working but there is no way I can exercise him like he should be. My D wants me to take him to a class, lol. College issues, cars, diets, job hunting, and now I have to worry about the dog, ugh.

Oh no, ldinct. You might have to take up running ASAP and take doggie with you!

Ha, ha. I have a fat pooch too. We shall be taking some walk/runs together as the weather gets better since I spotted a skunk around our house last week. We usually just let our dog out the back to do his business, but I’m afraid he’ll run into company. That I don’t need.

Idinct - not sure you meant to amuse with your doggie story but you surely did! I just had this fleeting image of him at some kind of fat camp for dogs and it made me smile. And, so you wont feel so bad, I am looking at a cat right now who would definitely be a candadate for the equivalent camp for pudgy kitties. He absolutely waddles when he walks. No matter what I say to DH, he persists in keeping the food bowl full.

OWM, so very happy for you! I was thinking of you last night, but could not have predicted how truly spectacular it would turn out to be. I’m so very thrilled for all of you. Congratulations!

ldinct, thank you so much for my first laugh of the day!!! I feel for you - my dog also has gained 4 lbs (a 30 lb dog) and it’s all my fault, so I’m right with you on needing to exercise him more. And me, too, of course.

I got a flash of your D’s dog getting rejected at the airport, those sad eyes saying, “Blame Grandma!”

kinderny, if D ends up at Bard, I’ll definitely take you up on your offer as a friendly local! She hasn’t gotten in yet, but she does have a chance, and I think it will end up in her top 2-3.

Son received a merit award from Fairfield U which is about an hour and a half from us. It was not a preferred school till now. Has lit up his eyes. He’s still waiting for most of his schools since he did not get his apps out till late and his test scores to the schools even later. But has received his SUNY acceptances which are his safeties in place. Now we need to see what else we can afford. He’ll be checking out Fairfield during their accepted student days.

Hi Everyone,

I got some of your requests for the shutterfly group, but I need your e-mail address to be able to add you
Madbean your e-mail is bouncing back.:(

OWM~Wonderful news …glad you had a good time.

Waving to all

aniger: you asked about the Amherst and Duke notification dates. There was a wonderful post here which contained all the notification dates from the school websites, plus info from when the notification went out last year. I can’t find the thread now, but I wrote down that last year Amherst posted theirs on March 26. Official date is by April 1st.

I don’t know the Duke date, but I’m sure there’s speculation on their board.

Congratulations to OWM’s son!-sounds like a marvelous evening.

OWM - WOW!! What an absolutely perfect evening. Your post brought happy tears to my eyes.

Thank you for all the kind posts about my D’s UC acceptance. It just seems like yesterday when this whole process started and now we are all just a month away from having to make our final decisions…

OWM - Congratulations! It sounds like a wonderful time!

Congrats for the nice scholarship wins and merit money and acceptances to all. I’ve given up keeping up. :o

D1 dutifully withdrew her apps following her ED acceptance, but the UCs apparently don’t bother noting withdrawals. Hence, we’re seeing in real life the difference between admissions at a school that primarily emphasizes GPA and test scores versus a school that admits holistically. I’m not surprised, but it is one of those nuances that I’m only really aware of because of CC.

We’ve had a crazy two weeks with prom date issues. Every girl my son was planning on asking got asked literally a few hours before he was going to ask her. He’d pretty much decided he wasn’t going, then out of the blue the girl he most wanted to go with, the one he was going to ask first until he heard she was going with someone else, asked him to go with her on Friday. So, after much heartache, we went complete circle and now he’s on cloud nine, because he knows she likes him! I’m so happy for him, because all his friends are going together in a bus (the prom is downtown, about 40 min from school) and now he’ll be part of the festivities. I don’t think he’ll even care if/when rejections arrive in the next two weeks!

Momdoc~Don’t you love it when things just fall in place :)

S2 i still not sure who he should ask

2education, tell your son not to wait too long!!! The best part is this girl also applied to his favorite school, which he got in EA, so if she gets a yes in two weeks, he’ll really be happy!

When is the prom at your kids’ schools? My daughter’s prom isn’t until mid-late May. We haven’t bought the dress yet… waiting until next month when we both have more time. She’s going with her boyfriend and probably a group of kids. I think maybe I’ll spring for a limo this year.

Ours is April 9…seniors graduate May 22.

Our prom is not until June! First time it’s so late in the year.

momdoc: same exact schedule here for prom and graduation. Nine weeks from now, graduation will be over!

I am so exhausted. Lovely congratulations at church today from everyone. Word travels fast in a small town–and when the superintendent of schools tweets things like Cotillion winners! (She was at the table next to us.)

Forgot it was spring break time when I headed to the airport to send my mom home this afternoon. Nearly cut it too close for her to make the plane–especially since we waited 10 minutes for a wheelchair and then the titanium ball in her shoulder set off the metal dectector. Sort of like a scene from a bad movie. She is home, safe and sound.

Got home and our grandson’s first birthday party had just started. 25 people or so at my house. When I figure out how to post the picture in the shutterfly page, I will include the grandson eating birthday cake. You have to imagine the Eric Carle book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” A round cake with red icing was the head of the caterpillar–30 cupcakes with green icing made the body. He got the red icing cake to himself–in the high chair his dad was in for his first birthday–stripped down to a diaper. Then he got a quick bath before presents.

Tonight, I helped our son rework his speech on scholarship for the NHS induction next week. NHS sponsor wants to see all four speeches tomorrow.

Can’t believe I have to work tomorrow. Would be way more fun to just work on pictures from this weekend!
