The Duke website says that RD applicants will receive an email no later than April 1st telling them where to login to see their decision. Last year the email were reportedly sent out on the last Monday and Tuesday in March. Their admissions information website has been down all weekend for “maintenance”. Hopefully they are preparing it for the decisions release which will cause near overload on their servers. S is also waiting for his Duke decision.

The Amherst website says that decision letters will be mailed on or about April 1st. One Amherst forum states that emails were sent out on the Monday before the 26th and decision letters were then mailed on Friday the 26th last year. A couple of RD applicants have reported that they received early acceptance letters back in the March 9th and 10 timeframe.

I noticed this evening when I signed-on that this forum now has over 500,000 views. With all the activity coming or way in the next couple of weeks, I bet that 600,000 views will get here very quickly. :)

EmmyBet, as a New Paltz alum and 18 year Hudson Valley resident, I didn’t have a car my first couple years in NP and it was fine. There is also a bus that goes right to Port Authority from New Paltz. You can walk to everything in the town, and Poughkeepsie doesn’t have much!

Hi, I also have a senior D here in Texas. At UT Austin, kids who are in top 10% of HS class have guaranteed admission, which is a definite disadvantage if you go to a smaller school that ranks.

We have had our own roller coaster ride here in the hill country - D did not get into her #1 choice, UT Austin’s Butler School of Music, which was a disappointment for her and a little sad for me because she would have been close by. But yesterday she got a letter from Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music saying she had been accepted and would receive the full Vanderbilt acceptance package next week! This is actually fantastic news for a number of reasons - she loved Butler and the whole vibe at Vanderbilt, one of my closest friends lives in Nashville and Vanderbilt meets 100% of financial need with no loans! Since I am a school librarian and my husband is a chef, we don’t have a large income, so this is very good news indeed. She still has to hear from a few other schools, including her #1 music school choice, Manhattan School of music, but I don’t think they will be able to approach the kind of financial assistance she will get at Vanderbilt. She wants to pursue music but is kind of psyched that at Vanderbilt she could minor in something like film studies and take academic courses that challenge her.
Well now that spring break week is over for her and me, the senior year stuff comes at a fast and furious pace - Jazz Band dinner dance, Spring concert, Senior Prom, Senior trip, awards dinner, and of course graduation. Oh yes, and this year we get to go to NOLA for my son’s college graduation from Tulane! He is waiting to hear from law schools, so is a little on pins and needles too.
Congrats to everyone and their kids - it takes a lot of work to raise a kid who does well in HS and stays motivated for college.

Moonmaid, fantastic news!

OWM, that’s so fantastic about your son and your magical night. You deserved it.

Madbean, I guess it would be fun to stoke rumors that I am Angelina Jolie, but alas, I cannot mislead. Just a regular mom here. My d’s high school asks an alum who has had some level of achievement to be the commencement speaker every year. I’m an alum, my family’s been at this school (girls’ Catholic) for generations, and I’m a little bit (emphasis on little) known for my professional life. The big thing about the graduation is the venue, a famous location in LA (blowing my cover perhaps for a local or two, but what the hey). A little nerve-wracking to give a speech up on that stage, but I have lots of time to practice.

Everything has turned upside down for D2 suddenly. She’d narrowed her decision to two schools that she’s in to, but one appears to have been suddenly demoted, and another, which was on the bottom of the heap last week, is now a top contender. Amazing how a great admissions mailing, and unexpected merit aid, can change a girl’s mind!

Wild rain here in SoCal… like that fake rain in the movies.

Should be quite a week for many of you-- clearly there will be more decisions, more letters in the mail, more aid offers. Good luck to all!

Moonmaid - congrats on the great news from Vandy! It sounds like a great fit for your D. And likewise, congratulations on your S’s upcoming graduation plus good luck on law school admissions.

Prom is May 14th here and graduation is June 5th. Between now and then, both daughters will have big moments in church @ Easter. One will be confirmed and the other will make her First Communion. For those of you who are Catholic - we are a little (?) off-track here; moved around some and just never got the educational process completed earlier. It’s actually been a pretty special experience for me as I have watched both girls make this a priority even though they are both so busy.

Have a good week everyone! Spring is in the air here and, with it, comes the end to this phase of the college search process!

I thought Spring was in the air, but I just looked outside and it snowed overnight! It’s now raining. Not the way I like my Monday’s to start.

Congrats on the Vandy acceptance Moonmaid. My daughter is in grad school there and really likes it. Cool city! I’m sure the music program is first rate.

OWM - Congratulations!!! That was some weekend!

kathiep-after a beautiful springlike weekend I also woke up to snow falling and three inches on the ground…oh joy…

our prom is June 17 and graduation is June 24!

Snow. Ugh. I usually don’t mind it but it has been in the 50s and 60s and that just reminded me that I am well and truly ready for spring. It was such a lovely weekend with D and H- nothing terribly exciting but no real stress due to D’s academics (unlike pretty much every year since 7th grade). I love her being a senior, taking responsibility for herself and employing strategies to deal with her classes’ demands that present issues for her. It is not going perfectly, but now is the time for her to figure out what works and what doesn’t with limited consequences (we are not talking failing- more scraping a B- instead of an B+).

moonmaind - Congrats - that is huge!

momdoc - isn’t it funny how things work out sometimes? There is just something about it it that makes it even sweeter.

There is plenty of prom drama here - D broke up with her boyfriend last month (finally!) but finds herself without a prom date. we have a combined junior/senior prom and many seniors are just opting outhtis year. D wants to go but is stressing about a date. It isn’t until May but I am hoping someting happens like momdoc’s S.

Good luck to everyone this week - we all need it! D and I are leaving tomorrow for two accepted student days this week, I amhoping that it will be bring some clarity and that she will make a decision!

I woke up to thunder and lightning! My poor dog was terrified.

Moonmaid: Congrats on the great news from Vandy. My friends daughter is doing a music minor in the Blair school and loves the school and the “music kids.”

We’re enjoying the lack of academic stress this semester also. Yesterday, my husband, daughter and I spent the afternoon in DC at the Newseum. We haven’t been able to do things like that in many years.

Good morning and congrats to everyone with good news! :)

momdoc ~ I love your son’s Prom story! Ours will be in June, btw.

Moonmaid ~ Congrats on Vanderbilt! What instrument does your daughter play?

Momofboston: Sorry about the prom drama. I hope things work out. Enjoy your trip.

Momdoc: So glad that your prom drama had a happy ending.

Our prom is May 14th. The last school day for seniors is May 27th. We still don’t have a graduation date!!

I feel like I am in The Twilight Zone here; it is snowing, sticking and we already have about two inches on the ground…

Good thing prom is not until June…

sr. prom is May 6th, but S is not going as he does not have a date.

Graduation is May 22nd. I think several of us have kids graduating that day. We will be having S’s graduation party immediately after the ceremony. I have to start thinking about invites.

Wake up to about 2" of snow - looks pretty but after the elementary bus doesn’t seem to be coming (another 3" had fallen = total 5" of unexpected snow - eg no salt, no sand) I decide to drive my smallest dd (9 yo) - BAD IDEA!!! I get stuck going down the hill sliding with a ton of other sliders - decide to give up and go back home, well going back up the hill, I almost make it, then get stuck for 1/2 hour with wheels spinning at the side of the road. Police come and go (“we have an accident to get to, but we’ll be back around”), snow plows try to plow me in!! Finally a little landscaper/driveway plow truck clears me out. I am shaking and guess what, dd gets a rare day of playing hookey with mom!! I am still shaking, is it too early for drinking?

yikes. No 4 wheel drive? I think after that adventure you both deserve a day off. oh, don’t forget Bloody Mary’s.

I have observed that buses do not do well in snow on hills. My kids don’t take school buses, but I would hesitate sending a kid off to school in one when the roads are slippery. And I feel for those poor bus drivers having to worry about all those kids they are transporting.

mamom ~ Our S went to a middle school that was on top of a hill, so when there was snow, we knew for sure he had the day off, because the bus couldn’t make it up, lol.

amandakayak ~ pina colada?
