No, my new car will have 4wd or awd, I’m thinking Subaru. Waiting for my lease to finish. The elem school bus comes down our street, it did finally come…albeit 45 minutes late! Like, would you expect to see anyone stand there for 45 min? I just hope it clears up before my ds/dd come back from HS, it’s supposed to be 50 degrees today and I wouldn’t have let him drive if I knew it was this bad. I am sure the town will get around to salt and sand before then. HA!

I just can’t keep up over the weekend but congrats and hugs to all who need them.

RE prom dresses. May want to start shopping now. I called a store to ask whether they had a particular dress. They didn’t and said they could special order any dress except dresses from the various “prom” collections. I guess those ship once and that is it.

D is on spring break this week. We didn’t plan to go anywhere because a) I can’t get the time off my job right now, and b) she’s busy on a project that culminates next week, and I knew she wouldn’t want to be unable to work on it.

So last night, she is out with her boyfriend, and my H asks me when she’s expected to be home. I tell him 11:30, and then he starts lecturing me on how she shouldn’t stay out late on a school night. I say it’s spring break, and then he starts lecturing me on how nobody ever tells him anything around here. Geesh.

**Monday’s Countdown for the “reachy” schools is:

Stanford - 4 days to go. Based on last year’s schedule we will hopefully get emails this week!

Vanderbilt - 2 days to decision mailing day (snail mail only - probably 4 or 5 days to hit your mailbox)

The big “H” and other ivys - 9 days to go based on the 5PM March 30th announcement date and time. Decisions will be released next week.

March 31st schools - 10 days to go.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. It is getting larger everyday. I hope it stays on track and arrives on time i. I just hope that it doesn’t run over i or sidetrack i* anyone.**

I am monitoring the news releases and admissions blogs to nearly a dozen “reachy” schools and will post updates or changes to the countdown as they occur.

Sorry for the late post this morning. I was in line at the Apple store for DS’s iPad2. He got a gift card back in late January for his 18th birthday and has been waiting for the ipad2 to be available. We had success today and got the model he wanted! I hope this bit of success carries over to all of this weeks decision notifications.

Moonmaid–congrats!
Momdoc–I’m so happy for your son

Prom–arghhh. My DS hasn’t had great luck in the dating arena. I asked him the other day if he was going to Prom and he snapped “of course I’m going”. The snappy part of course meant “don’t ask anything else”. So I have no idea if he’s hoping to ask someone, or if he’s planning to go with a group of friends. I told my DH to do a little probing, since if he does have a date, there are other things to coordinate. Things book up fast around here–so I hope he has a clue (he’s a procrastinator to the nth degree). Guess it will work out. I don’t even know if tuxes need to be rented well in advance or if they get sold out also–I did mention this to him.

Who knows what lurks in the mind of a teen boy!

For anyone intereted, Villanova has posted results on line this morning.
Rumor has it one of D’s schools will tell students Friday. Rest are March 30. Lots of friends waiting on Stanford though. Good luck all who are still waiting. D’s schools are mix of snail mail, online accounts, and e-mail notifications. I still remember watching for the mail truck in the early 80s. Big project at work this week. Hoping it keeps me distracted. AK - MIMOSA!

Prom…last year S claimed up and down he was not going, didn’t want to spend the $$. The Saturday before the Monday tickets had to be purchased, his girl-friends decided he WAS going and told him who he was taking (another one of his BFFs). They were all in a big group - had a great time! Gotta love having an S who owns his own tux But I do have a freshman D…

Boychild got accepted to St. Lawrence. 8 down 1 to go. I cannot wait until this is over.

Congrats Emilybee!!

emilybee - congrats…you are SOOOO close!

Congrats. It looks like he has some great choices.

Congrats to boychild!

Moonmaind - Congrats - Vandy music program is FABULOUS - And with money, got to love this :)

Emilybee~ Congrats to your S on his St Lawrence acceptance this is great news as well :)

Amanda~I am glad you are OK. We live in the mountains and a Suby is definitly the way to go Gald you are enjoying the snow from inside - great pictures by the way ;)

Momdoc~I asked S2. He is going to our local HS prom with a friend from our Church youth group. But as of today has no date for his prom…
Prom is May 25th, I guess we still have time. I hope your S’s date will receive some good news in two weeks :D

Stay

Snow here today too, ugh and after such a nice weekend. I even ran the fat little dog yesterday as long as I could, didn’t even tire him out.
S took a freshman to the Jr/Sr prom last year, not too much competition there I guess. He did find out if it was ok with her mom before he asked though. I would have never let my D go to the prom as a freshman, but I was super strict. The mom knew him very well, so it didn’t surprise me she agreed. I would bet he’ll be taking another freshman this year.

I have really been enjoying watching the Class of 2011 acceptance list grow! Got me to thinking that it would be nice to start a separate list with the school that out student will actually be attending in the fall! My d hasn’t decided yet, but perhaps someone who has made the decision can start a thread for this! Either that or we can wait until after 5/1 to start posting… What does everyone think?

mommaid- congrats on Vandy acceptance. I love Nashille. Good luck to your S waiting for law school news.

OWM- Glad you got your Mother back safe and sound. The cake sounded adorable.

Avon - both mykids would like new IPads. hope your S enjoys his.

cpt - congrats on merit from Fairfield. Money is always welcome.

Momofboston - hope something gets worked out and your D gets to go to prom. I assume by your screen name you live in the Boston area, maybe I can fix her up with my S. (he would absolutely kill me if he knew)

momdoc - funny how things just work out. Hope she has a great time.

Kinderny - absolutely right, better to learn how tojuggle things in HS than get overwhelmed in college.

Just started snowing — not nice!

Wow - I took the weekend off and had a lot to catch up on. Need to start keeping a second window open so I can type my comments in as I read :)

OWM - congratulations on the top scholarship. Sounds like it was a wonderful, special night - please do post pictures so we can share your joy!

Amanda - glad you are ok. Driving up a hill in snow is not pleasant - our piano teacher lives up on a hill and I almost always make H drive. D drove the last time when the driveway was iced over - got stuck at the top and had to back slowly down and then walk up! I would have been a basket case!

Congratulations on all the acceptances/merit money.

Prom - our prom is June 1st. She has the dress, now has to find a date. Funny thing is we talked about going shoe shopping and she says she has to have her date finalized first. She’s fairly tall (5’8") and if her date is not too tall, she wants to get small heels - if her date is much taller than her, she wants to get slightly bigger heels!! You should have seen H’s face as we were discussing this :)

D also got good news on the scholarship front this weekend. She got a nice merit award from one of her favorite schools - she was very thrilled. Kind of makes the rest of the decisions a little less important. She and I talked while the boys were out Sunday - she said she would feel like she’s letting everyone down if she doesn’t make it to the “dreaded” ivies…I told her that she shouldn’t worry about that. She has done all she can and these admissions are such a crazy, unpredictable process. Hopefully, it got through…

On another note, she heard that she won a small local scholarship! Has to go on Saturday for the awards ceremony - she was very excited! Not a large amount, but just the fact that she won got her excited!

Love reading about those here who are spending some great quality time with your seniors. My dear S2 spent all weekend writing a mammoth research paper for one of his APs. No rest around here, but he’s in a terrific mood for some reason. Perhaps his good spate of acceptances thus far have given him the feeling all will be right someday. That’s how I’m feeling, too. :)

Moonmaid–Great news on Vandy and the big bucks!

Emilybee–WooHoo on St Lawrence!

AmandaK–take care on those slippery roads. I moved away from Chicago with shivery memories of all the winters where I could hardly pull my car away from the sloped curb due to ice. My brother actually carried around old junk to put under his tire so it could get a grip. Ah, the good old days.

Re: Prom. Our HS canceled this year’s prom. Not sure I mind this, as they have a huge grad night extravaganza plus many more activities planned. No pressure on the tux or the date, either.

Don’t know if I should pass this along–but there is a very credible rumor that UC Berkeley has posted a listing of accepted students on their CalNet system. The official release of decisions is March 24.

I hesitated mentioning the news here, because what if it isn’t a legitimate list? Is it better to check early? For any here who may be anxious about Cal, if you want to try this method, read all about it at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1106936-berkeley-admissions-released-early.html

own - D2 and I read your exciting news as we drove through Utah on our way to the Grand Canyon. congrats!

D2 and H are hiking the Canyon this morning. Wonder how far they’ll go since it’s been snowing for a couple of hours.

Right now I have no idea what D2 is thinking about next fall. What had been at the top of her list for months has fallen way down. Waiting for these last three decisions.

Poor Amanda! Reminds me of our near-fatal skid down that icy hill on a college visit a few months ago. 2 words for you: BLIZZAK TIRES!
