Make that 10. DD and I will be with you at least until 4/25. Hoping D will fall in love with one of the two we are visiting later this month. Oh, and then there is that darn waitlist thing…When do they get to actually ENJOY senior year?
Grad party scheduling and prom drama starting to rear it’s ugly head here to make matters even more emotional.

D’s boyfriend is still on the boat… waiting for a final financial aid decision. I think his family has figured out a way to afford it without too many loans, but a reduction from the FA office would be EXTREMELY helpful. He’s supposed to find out in about a week.

Cgpm- definitely vacationing and not collegeshopping! D is in Costa Rico visiting friends! Congrats to all who have recently disembarked! Posting from phone so forgive the lack of individual mentions…

That is just incredible! What a great way for the kids to really celebrate!

Fog Fog, they hire coach buses for the boys and their dates, as well… so they don’t have to rent limosines. It’s truly, nicely done. The after party is open to all graduating seniors and their dates, whether they attend prom or not…and there is no charge.

Each of the 12 high schools in our county also have an all night After Prom party hosted by the PTSA. Our HS’s party will be held at a movie theater with free movies, casino games, a magician, coffee house, video games and more. It’s not a lock-in, but kids who stay all night are eligible to win grand prizes including TV’s, IPODs, and digital cameras. We’ve gotten great support from our community. The county has even donated $$ to each HS to help support the parties. The kids have a great, safe time, and this effort has increased parent awareness of the dangers of teen drinking and driving, especially on prom night.

MomJr… S1’s prom after-party isn’t a lockdown, but if a student wishes to leave prior to 4:00 am, his parents will be notified by phone.

Hollie - PM me if you need any restaurant or other recommendations. Hope you are having a good time.

Our high school has a big party after graduation – all-night, locked-in the school, with lots of games, prizes, food, music – everything from sumo wrestling to Guitar Hero to a hypnotist. It starts at 10:30 p.m. the night of graduation and goes until 5:00 a.m. the next morning. The purpose is to keep kids off the road and out of trouble. If you leave, you can’t come back in. And if you leave, you don’t get to win one of the big prizes like laptops, flatscreen TVs, etc.

Good to know ds wasn’t the last one on board. Started to seem like everyone was on shore. Hey, anyone out there financially astute with appealing merit aid awards? I need a little advice and would rather pm someone with details and not bore all of you. Feel like I’m back in China haggling over produce.

^^amandak–I feel like I’m standing at the stall right next to you haggling.

S2’s 2 best friends suddenly announced their decisions. Both have selected their schools! (CMU and McGill). He’s alone on the SS Indecision, or perhaps I should say he’s on her sister ship the SS Insolvent.

Oy.

2 Education - we will be visiting Duke this weekend. Glad to hear your visit has gone well. Cannot wait to hear how S likes it. Good luck to you!

cgpm59: we have the same type of party after graduation for all three schools in the district and the two private schools. It’s held at the local university. Kids park their cars at the mall parking lot (a police officer watches all night) and they are bussed to the campus at 10:30 and bussed back at 5 a.m.

I think we will have some nice musical entertainment aboard the SS Indecision during its last few weeks at sea. Kinderny’s D is a violinist, my S is a trumpeter. Amanda’s son – sax? Rom? Mnmom?

I don’t know how many passengers that makes, but you can count my S on the ship for at least a couple more weeks - and sadly - he will miss senior prom for a scholarship interview weekend. What a bummer! At least it’s down to the last two - hoping to not go down with the ship…

We got back from the admitted student program at Northwestern late last night. S was really wowed by the program and has indicated he is about 95% there. He says it will take a lot this weekend at another program to change his mind. Then it’s decision time along with the waitlist game for one of his two waitlisted schools. So it appears we will disembark next week but stay on the pier to see if the SS Waitlist will stop to pick us up or pass us by for the next port.

D1 still on the boat since we are awaiting finaid appeals, might be another week! No instrument ability but she’s been in an advanced choir for a several years so could help with the vocals on the SS Minnow…

Ohiomom - S plays the oboe/English horn. And I agree that since this cruise was their idea the least they can do is entertain us!

D has only been taking violin since last summer. Her strength is her vocals- a nice clear alto, and can carry a harmony. But I think we can make the entertainment work. Correction, they can make it work. ;)

Can’t offer any entertainment from D. She sings well, but looks to be spending the whole voyage puking over the side. Off to Bulldog Days @ Yale today in the rain hoping to achieve some clarity.

S is an accomplished pianist. Is there a piano on board?
HighHead ~ Good luck with the Yale visit. Hope it all becomes clear.
We are leaving tomorrow morning for Princeton Preview.
