Hard to have clarity in the rain!! I wish all these admitted student things were under nice blue skies.

I hear you amandaK. We have one final fling on Friday and right now it looks like blue skies, but they are calling for rain Thursday and Saturday so I don’t have high hopes.

My son was a real musician in MS, playing three instruments (upright bass or violin, trumpet and piano) but gave it all up in 10th grade for computer programming classes. He’s still good at noodling on the piano, which might be a good background sound.

amandak: It seems as if there should be a rule – colleges must provide beautiful weather for these visits! (and delicious snacks and nice t-shirts)

As for entertainment on the SS Indecision, it seems that we will be enjoying a varied musical program. My son also envisions himself as a stand-up comedian, so perhaps he can crack a few jokes and get us to smile as we are hanging over the side in the rough waters.

My D does “killer” blonde jokes… I can foresee a lovely time, just before we all sink below the waves.

We will be on the boat for at least another week or so. Good idea about the entertainment. D plays the piano and the violin - add her to the orchestra! Perhaps this can be practice for that piano guild finals in June :)

Speaking of music, this duet clip from NASA is lovely.

The one thing I can take comfort in - and I bet you will agree - is that there WILL be a decision. S has NO intention of living at home next year ;)

So, I am going to order another Rum Runner, sit in a sunny spot, and watch him agonize over this. I do enjoy the company and like planning our entertainment.

D takes off tonight on her 2nd cross-country flight in less than a week. A red eye! I don’t think she’ll be up for joining the orchestra or the choir. Just as well, her music is not exactly my cup of tea ;)

LOL rom828!

Thanks for the link, kindeny. Nothing like a little jazzed-up Bach… :)

Well, not to brag, but my ds dabbles in techtonic dancing. You get some electronic music going and poof he’s doing some really funky moves. And yes, he can conduct this little band btw.

I think I might just enjoy these last couple of weeks aboard the SS Indecision. The entertainment is really shaping up! Rom-- you got it! I know that, in the end, my son will choose a school because he really, really doesn’t want to be home with us next year!!

Rom - LOL.

Wow, I was glad we weren’t on the SS Indecision, now I feel like I am missing out. ;-)

Unfortunately we do not have the same prod for D to disembark from the SS Indecision. If we told her she could live at home while she was going to UAlbany, that would definitely tilt the decision in that school’s favor. In fact if it weren’t for the godawful dorms with no kitchens, I think she would already have dropped Hampshire and sent the $ to UA.

**The SS Indecision left port on April 1st.

The ship will stop in many ports this month with the last port call scheduled in 18 days when all final commitments to schools are due. (Or nautically speaking, it’s time to sink or swim.)**

DS plays the french horn, so we are building quite the band/orchestra for the SS Indecision!

On rainy visits: DS loved his visit last weekend in spite of the rain, so the school can shine thru the clouds.

I think DS is getting closer to jumping ship. He’s pretty much decided to cancel that last school visit that he added last week. It means he’s down to two college choices. I think I know what he will decide, but I’m glad he’s taking the time to explore the choices so he knows he’s made the correct decision.

I added a few pics to shutterfly. It was fun to see all the pics everyone has posted! Thanks!

Hey buddies!

I spent all day yesterday with my mother-she is doing pretty good for those of you who remember all the horrors she went through starting about a year ago. The dementia is there but she is still mom. Topped off the day with a chorus concert for the girl-mercifully only one more and she’s done. She will not be continuing her musical career at the HS next year.

My son would like, I am sure, to be part of the entertainment on this cruise even though he has decided-why miss a party, right?

I hope everyone with admitted student visits gets good weather-it does make such a difference.

If I can just get my kid to get his act together for his trip I would be so pleased. I have done all I can-I cannot go to the store and try on walking shoes that he could also use with a nice pair of pants for the night they will be out somewhere nice and for Easter Sunday when he will I hope be able to attend Easter Mass in Madrid with his teacher and a few other kids who want to go-if she can work out the logistics she will get them there.

I could use some tips on this packing stuff-not being a traveler I am finding how to pack for a plane ride challenging-it’s those fluid rules-he needs to take his contact lens solution so I have no choice but to deal with them.

I should add that our S plays piano/keyboards and guitar. Sounds like we have a rather well rounded ensemble coming together on the pool deck of the SS Indecision. Just keep those Rum Runners and Pina Coladas flowing. :)

S2 is still aboard. Looking closely at his top 3 choices–waiting to see what FinAid appeals may bring. This will go down to the wire, I’m afraid.

Of course, he would insist on designing the backdrop for the orchestra, and I’m sure will be custom designing and then rearranging the music stands as the ship goes… down?

Bummer. Received not so great financial aid pkg from D’s top choice school yesterday. Technically, we could afford it, but have decided it is not worth it to pay/borrow over $150k for 4 years of college when she has other great options which are nearly free. SO D is back to deciding among three schools that each offered close to a full ride (not a bad place to be in the grand scheme of things). I’m giving her some time to process the reality that she got into this awesome school but won’t get to attend b/c of $$.

Here is my dilemma- should we still head to the admitted students day at D’s top choice? I’m leaning towards going because (1) non-refundable airfare is involved, (2) there are other fun things to do in area; and (3) she says she wants to keep it in mind for possible transfer or grad school. Any thoughts?

I am loving the Titanic imagery of these posts and I am apparently going to be right there with you for the next couple of weeks ;)

Lol madbean! Don’t worry - he will jump ship - even if it has to be at the last minute!!

Pepper - is he going to be checking a bag in? If so, it’s best to check in the contact lens solution. If he’s not, he’ll have to get the small solution bottles - one bottle might not last him for the time he’s there! Put these bottles in a ziploc baggie and he should be fine!

Sounds like the orchestra is growing. Fabulous - now just keep the pina coladas and margaritas flowing…
